Zebra Danio - Eggs

Yeah I still have the babies. They are about an inch long and gorgeous. I also have smaller danios from another generation. I've got pics but don't want to bore anyone. :D

OOI, how long does it take for an eggbound female to release the eggs? Ive got a few, but they seem to be taking ages to release the eggs.
Well I don't know how long exactly but I'm guessing when they she is about to burst then the males will start chasing her

Well I would suggest that if she is about to burst you put her in a separate breeding tank with a male and she will have LOTS of eggs that can be saved from the parents by taking the parents out of the breeding tank and putting them back in the normal tank. That way you will have a nice, new, clean tank for the babies to grow up in with lots of space and only the babies are in it. When she has babies, reply and inform me! :)

i kept mine in a bowl in the sun. My danio just had another batch in a shaded area...and the eggs look healthier. Do you think it was because of the sunlight?

Probably because the water went off. Eggs need freshly filtered water too.

No not really, unless they happen to float by the filter. I kept mine in a net suspended over the tank. It's vital they get oxygenated water so they don't go mouldy.

Just out of interest, how many eggs do you try to raise at one time? When I do it, I only really raise five fry at a time.

I try to hatch the amount that the female gives me because i do not want to damage the eggs by taking some out. I try to keep everything calm in there.

Hey! I just bought a 10-gallon breeding tank with a sponge filter! That's not all... I also have a Zebra Danio FILLED with eggs and ready to breed! I think I will let her get a little fatter first!

Well show me pics when you have fry!!!!!!!!!!!!
