What about Bulldog/Pitbull plecos instead of Otos. IMO they are nice quirky fish and they are much tougher than Otos.
:oh: Putbull Plecos and Bulldog Plecos are 2 seperate species ^_^

Bulldog, good option.
Pitbull, not so much. Pitbulls are best kept in groups of 3 or more, therefore not a good option for this tank.

lol I just labeled both of them because I can't remember which one is which :shout:

lol no prob. Figured I'd just clarify it.

As for stocking in this tank; you need to make sure that whatever other fish you add are going to be peaceful enough not to disturb the CPDs. I'd suggest a Honey Gourami or a small group of sparkling gourami if there's room, as a centerpiece (but that's just my preference, I think Gourami are gorgeous).

I am really unsure of gouramis. I've never really done fishkeeping except for bettas, so I have to rely heavily on others' experiences, and I keep hearing mention of how gouramis can get quite aggressive. I keep getting the image of them as basically a large betta, and I know I'd never trust any of the bettas I've owned with CPDs. I see them all the time at the LFS, and they are really gorgeous, and they seem very personable - they always come up to the glass when you walk by. Are some of them peaceful enough to be trusted with nervous little guys like CPDs?

In other news, it's National Pitbull Awareness day here in the US. I guess this can apply to plecos too, since I'd never heard of them. Now I'm aware! :p

Not all gouramis are created equally.

The Honey Gourami and Sparkling gourami are both very peaceful types of Gourami. They both stay relatively small, and are both beautiful in colouration.

Like Bettas, each gourami does have a distinguishable personality, but not all Gouramis are comparable to bettas in aggression (though some are). Iwould also like to point out that not all bettas are aggressive. Betta Splendens (the betta you've kept) is not the only type of betta available (according to wikipedia, there are around 65 species classified in the genus betta.); and while male betta splendens are aggressive, female betta splendens can successfully be kept in groups in the right conditions(I personally have a group of 4 who are only aggressive towards each other, not their many tank mates).

A group of 5-6 Pygmy Gourami SHOULD be ok with CPD, however there is a small chance the Gouramis may take a disliking to the CPDs.
