Your First Fish

Mine was a female paradise fish. Only I didn't get to cycle my tank because it was an emergency. My friend at uni decided she didn't want the hassle of travelling home with her at the end of third year and was going to flush her. I had a mad rush trying to get a tank (turned out another friend was selling hers so I bought that, at a much inflated price). Then I had to put her in a plastic box full of water, wrapped up in towels and drive her almost 200 miles home, set up[ the tank in a mad panic and get her in. She survived a year in that tank though and died recently (I think from old age :()

White cloud mountain minnows, cycled with them and they're still happy now. Ones looking distinctly pregnant too, now that I think about it.

I had 3 'Shebumpkin' Goldfish in a 15" tank with an air pump as first ever fish. They lived quite a while, and then I got the Tropical set-ups. (The only 'Cycling' I did was on my Paper-round)

>There was a pet shop directly opposite my house, and the old guy advised me not to just put them in a bowl. Even Named one of them 'Bob' (it's mouth action!)

First tropical fish; Silver-Tip Tetras, followed a few weeks later by some PepperedCories and a 'Three-Spot Gourami' which lived for about 15 yrs.

My first fish...A betta in a bowl when I was about 8 years old - didn't know anythink about proper fishkeeping. Then about ten years latter, 5 head and tail light tetras and an apple snail - I know, big upgrade right! lol!

My first fish were 2 blue rams and 2 dwarf frogs. All but 1 frog died 10 months after.
Wasn't told about cycling by lfs. :grr:

i got 2 rummy nosed tetras (now i know they are firehead tetras) which are still with me 2.5 years later.
I also got 5 neon tetra which are no longer living.

a week later i got 3 mollys and after a week in my tank 2 of them gave birth to 25 babies.

Great fun during the first month of setting up the tank. haha

The first fish I added to my tank are 4 Endlers and 4 X-Ray Tetra. For once I can be smug and say that I completed my fishless cycle first so adding 8 fish at once was not a problem. But only thanks to this forum as otherwise would have just plonked them in and watched what happened.

If your interested you can see how I did it in my [topic="237855"]Beginner Small Tank Diary[/topic].

Thanks everyone for helping and for not letting my fish suffer in the cycle.

Darryl

After a fishless cycle completed which took 6 weeks I started with 6 Zebra Danios.

So many people started with so many different fish! No one fish standing out as the most popular starter fish.

1 Betta, 5 Daino's, 4 Platy's all survived, All cycled in tank....No regrets really, but maybe I was just lucky

Hmm... I remember when I was younger, up until I was six or seven, we had a tank that had Kissing Gouramis, Neon Tetras, Silver Dollars, and a Blue Gourami. I'm pretty sure there was more in there (it was really over stocked), but that's all I can remember.

My first fish I owned was a cambodian colored Betta.

My first cycled tank, however, first inhabitants were 2 Angelfish. Both have passed, one had a tumor, the other jumped while I was sleeping.

my first fish was a pictus cat

but the first beasts that i personaly introduced were 3 shrimps followed 5mins later by a betta
