Yf Can Taste The Salt..

I just spoke to my LFS, they do there saltwater to 1.022.
So am right in thinking I will need to buy some salt?
To get it up to 1.026.
Or can I just drip method the corals + crab to that salt level?
As it would save me alot of hassle.

YF

So would you say I should get the 1.022 and then add abit of salt.
Or just get RO water, and add salt myself.

YF

I would find out what salt the LFS is using to mix their salt water.

Mine uses TMC pro reef which is also the salt I use so am lucky, if I need saltwater quickly, I can get some pre-mixed and add a little extra salt. I did this during my cyano outbreak, it was easier than constantly mixing the amount of salt water I was using.

Some LFS will use a cheaper salt that can be deficient in calcium, Magnesium and Alkalinity.

The choise about mixing yourself or not can then be made by an informed decision.

Urghh.
Nothing can ever be simple.
So if I give them a ring, ask them what they use and then let you know?
The only thing about salt is money, im neally out already as I thought I could just use salted water straight from LFS.
:(

Wohooo!
Just rang up a LFS that keeps marine also.
And they are closer to my house.
And they said if I want they can make it to 1.026 for me.
It will be £6.50 for 25ltrs.
50p more than the other place, but it saves buying salt.
It will only cost me a bomb at the start because I need to fill the whole tank up.
Im going to get 125ltrs.
Just a quick question, im getting some liverock from a different breakdown also, not sure if the rock has been kept at 1.026.
Do I need to acclimatize it?
Or can I just simply take it out of there, and put it in my tank?

YF

YF get it from the other chap who will make it up to the level you want, it's not worth the hassle for a fiver :good:

Seffie, its £5 cheaper, but will cost £10 petrol to get there.
I will need to go there next saturday, pick the water up.
Then go up there the next day to pick the rock up once the tank is ready.
So it would cost me £20 just in petrol.
:p

Sounds good if you can get it made to 1.026 for you :good:

Later on you can buy your own salt and start to mix yourself, this will work out cheaper but as you say, starting out can be expensive.

Ok, Trod is throwing in her small RO unit which she only used for a month or so - however you will need to buy a new membrane for it as it has been dry for a few months now, although saying that she has the ball valves on it, will have to check

ps although I have just looked on the web and the membrane will cost you £30, might be better to just buy a new one, along with some ball valves from ROman

Trod says it doesn't have ball valves on it so the membrane will need replacing

it's this one, only a small one, but we didn't need a bigun - I have now put a DI unit and Ball valves on (well Trod put them on actually) my one and Trod has bought a big boy from ROman

Where do I get a membrane from?
Also, how much RO water does it produce?
I goto try and work out how to work it now lol.
I've not looked at one of those before.
THANKSSS TRODDDDD

Well, maybe not - he will have to heat the water anyway to make it, so, why not pick up water and rock at the same time
