Went to my LFS and saw these on a un-labeled tank, when I ask the guy on the floor what they were he said "Umm they are Cichlids, from Africa" ...after that I didn't bother asking anymore questions :X

Pic 1 = Pseudotropheus Acei and a Pseudotropheus Elongatus

Pic 2 = Looks like a slightly stressed Elongatus

Pic 3 = Elongatus again

Pic 4 = 2 x Pseudotropheus Acei and what looks like a female Pseudotropheus Saulosi

:D

Could the dark cichlid be a Copadichromis borleyi "Redfin" female by any chance, or it is definitely a Ps. Acei.

Its most deffiniatly not a copadichromis borleyi, but it doesn't look like any acei I have ever seen. I would be enclined to say the colour resembles the rusty cichlid??? whatever they are, there a beutiful looking fish.

But this is a picture of a Copadichromis borleyi (Kadango) - Red Fin - female, that I found this site  .

Also, should I be worried about the Elongatus's aggression, I have 2 of them at in the tank and they are rather young, the smallest in the tank at the moment, about an inch & a half. I'm kind of worried if I've gotten 2 males  .

- then go to images then F0 Female

Yep, thats the copadichromis in the link, stunning fish, I have 5 of them, red and yellow finned.
BUT, the 2 in your photo are most deffiniatly not.
Scoured through my mbuna aqualog and there is no cichlid that resembles yours, chances are its a hybrid, and a beutiful one at that. :good:

Agree with Brewyn, don't think they are Borleyi. I still think its an Acei but maybe a hybrid, they look identical to my Acei Ngara except the fin colouration is too orange.

Very nice looking fish though even if they are hybrids. :)

On the Elongatus, 2 males would be risky as they are aggressive but from your pics it looks like you have 1 dominant and 1 sub-dominant already, the colours they are displaying are markedly different. I would just see how it goes and keep an eye on them.

thats what Iv'e been looking at, those orange fins plus the orange patch on the flank, never seen anything so vibrant.

Here's some more pic's of the dark cichlid...

...Sorry for the poor poor camera taking =/

OK its not an Acei, pic 3 shows the true body shape. Gonna do some more searching.

I have never seen a fish like that before and at first i would have agreed with you ferris but now with soem clearer pictures i am stumped at what it is i have never seen anything like that before.

Here's a possibilty, i hadn't initially considered Aulonocara.

Aulonocara Iwanda

I'm also gonna do a complete u-turn and say it could be a Copadichromis borleyi now we've got those extra pics, check this link....

Borleyi

Looking at that link ferris, I would have to agree, where did you find that link? heres a link of what I know to be the copadichromis borleyi yellow fin. exactly the same as mine, strange and huge difference between the photos!!!

http://www.gcca.net/fom/Copadachromis_borleyi.htm :/

thats weird  . although the first site does say that there are several variaties available , and the one fish in the backround looks a lot like the one in question -perhaps the central one is a male , and this guy has 2 females ( my apologies for referring to you as " this guy" , its 3 in the morning and im browsing the african cichlid section  ) .

lovely fish whatever the outcome :fun:
