Well I'm pleased to say that my cory eggs have started to hatch! So far I have three little ones swimming about and another four eggs that should be hatching shortly! I lost the rest to fungus! How long does it take for the cory fry to develop into a reasonable size that I can put them in with other fish?

Is it normal for corys to spawn around five days after they first spawned? As mine were at it again yesterday! I was fortunate or should I say unfortunate to witness it, it was really strange watching them! I also feel really sorry for my female as she was constantly harrassed by my two males at one point I was tempted to remove her as they wouldnt leave her be!

hi natsuko & congratulations on the eggs hatching!!!now the hard work begins, lol!dont be in a rush to put the fry in with your other fish as your other fish will just see them as food.my fry are 1 month old now and are still way too small to go in with the other fish.iv asked the same question on ths forum before and the answer i got was when there atleast 3 months old,i suppose it depends on what other fish youv got.

as for the spawning,it can happen again so soon, sometimes once cories start they never seem to stop!!the mateing ritual is a long drawn ot process and i felt sorry for my female aswel last time.infact i fed them half way through it to give the female a short break.

once you start feeding the fry make sure you keep the bottom of the tank really clean & do not add a sponge filter until there about 4 weeks old.all you need is an air stone and daily water changes.good luck!!! :) x

Thanks Flumpit 2! Looks like they will have to go in my betta grow out tank to grow out then I'll just section them part of it off when they get big enough! I have two tanks which they could go in one has female bettas and the parents to these little ones and the other has a male betta, 2 bns (will be moving one shortly in with my girls but have algae problem at mo hence why both are in one tank) 5 emerald eye rasboras and 2 amano shrimp!

Looks like they need about same amount of care as my baby bettas then!

Yeah I fed mine part way through it too my poor girl looked so stressed! There was me wondering why on earth the males were more pinky in colour and always on top of her patting her with their fins! It was interesting to watch them spawn as I didnt realise that the male went into a kind of trance whilst in the t-position, or that she would use both males I thought they only selected one male out of the pair? Another interesting thing is that they hold the eggs in their back fins (dont know name sorry) before finding a suitable place to stick them to! Very interesting to watch though!

it is dead interesting to watch them spawn.my female pepper always uses both males, they sort of take it in turns, lol.did you notice the males do a little shudder at the end of the T position or how the female rolls on to her side slightly (or mine did anyway) to get her eggs out?its soooo different than watching other egg layers spawn aint it!?i think most fry care is basicaly the same for any breed.the only thing about corys is that cus they live on the bottom it has to be kept really clean or theyl get a bacterial infection.having a bit of a crisis with my fry at the mo. :( .keep us updated with how things go with the fry! :) x

I never noticed the shudder she just launched herself at the second male though it was creepy! Mine already had hold of her eggs when she was in the t position, I wonder how the spawning process actually works? Looks like I'll be doing some research!

I hope your fry get better soon for you! Thats the one thing I dread is losing these fry which I know is likely as its my first batch of cory fry and it has taken me three atempts to get my betta fry to 4wks old! I will be keeping their home nice and clean!

Did you use liquifry 1 or 2 I have both as well as bbs and daphnia and bloodworms live and frozen! Unfortunately I do not have any microworms unfortunately, I should think of getting a culture at some point!

I'm hoping these fry do make it as it would save me a few pennies in having to buy more!

I will keep you updated

i started my fry off on liquifry 1 cus i didnt have any microworms.the problem with liquifry tho is that it makes a big mess in the water & makes it harder to keep clean.i got my culture off ebay & i think it cost me £2:50 inc postage,so its cheap enough.i think the bloodworm etc miht be a bit big for the fry to start with.

from what i can gather with the spawning process (but i might be slightly wrong) the female sucks the milt out of the male, sticks her eggs on the glass or where ever then releases the milt out of her mouth over the eggs to fertelise them.sounds grose to me!!

this is my 1st attempt at cory fry aswell and they are quite easy but time consuming to look after.if i can get this far then anyone can!!!good luck!!! :) x

Well my fry have started to take live bbs I completely forgot to feed them over the week until Friday and then I just chucked in a few bbs needless to say they're bellies started to look fatter afterwards! It's a good job I had some live plant in with them so I think they've been feeding on infusora up til then!
