Xenophallus umbratilis not breeding

Great stuff EK.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who had to read that a few times to “get it” at least I think I ”got it”.
Yes, sorry for the long story. Once I start writing, it's hard for me to stop...

Went to go feed the fish this afternoon and was greeted with a horrifying sight in the space of 1-2 days this growth came out of nowhere on my original female. It's coming from her gill and is only on the right side. From what I've been able to find it's a tumour but any one have any input? She's acting normal and fought hard when I netted her but needless to say this doesn't look good.

It doesn't look good. But it's hard to tell more about it from this angle...

Tough to get good pictures here are 2 more angles. 30 minutes after I separated her in the net the growth seemingly retreated, with it just poking out of her gills instead of dangling. But I wasn't able to get a picture.

It's hard to tell. But you were saying that it appeared in two days time. For a tumor needs more time to develop and especially with this size. Could it be that she ate something but instead that it went to her stomach, that it went through her gills?

Think I jumped the gun and it was just a big chunk of ramshorn snail 😅 the fish are doing well but still no breeding. I started feeding them grindal worms but then was away for 3 weeks and got back recently. Still no babies or gravid looking females but hopefully consistent daily feedings of grindal worms should do the job. Got a nice video of the males sparring after feeding today showing off their vertical body bars. They seem more interested in each other than the females not sure if I should remove all but 1 to have less distractions.
