Would You? - Site Launched!

i would def use it for foods, hardware and accesories rather than a shop just because of the ease. but not fish (prefer seeing the fish face to face before i buy)

Ok sounds great. :) Anyone else who would be interested in using this free service when it comes available within the next week, please post below. Also anyone with any suggestions please feel free to post aswell. ;)

Anyone with opinions? :(

I already have most peoples backing to open it up, but it will take a large amount of effort on my part to get it going, and want to make sure it wont all be going to waste. :)

You sure? With postage from the UK it is unlikely to be competetive.

i but alot of fish stuff on ebay and it works out a hell of a lot cheaper.

I have 3 fish stores where i live and thus they can charge what they like.

also would i get VAT knocked off :p

sorry to put a downer but i think it would be a failure.

from the site bloozoo linked to thats just about surviving probable with only several auctions going.

If you could get it up and running and have it be successful (with people actually listing and what not) I think it would be great. A lot of the people on the forum are familiar with each other so it would be nicer to buy from them as opposed to some random stranger you know nothing about.

definitely don't make it "pick-up only"! i really doubt that the majority of people looking to buy fish online are opposed to shipping. it's also a huge limitation on who can sell/buy a fish -- unnecessary limitations are never good when you're trying to get something off the ground.

We aren't setting limitations, we have coded the script so that the member has the option of delivering them themselves, pickup only, or shipping - its totally upto the seller how they choose to deliver the livestock. ;)

It's obviously going to be tough to attract potential buyers/sellers to begin with, but once we get regular sellers and visitors to the site, gradually more and more will start signing up. :)

C.O.D. would be cool especially with equipment sorta like protection just so you can make sure that what you are getting is working and in good condition. Think the ammount of people that have got tanks and stuff of e-bay and it ended up having loads of leaks and you allready paid for it

Is there going to be any way of screening the sellers to ensure they are selling quality items? Or is it 'buyer beware'?

Hi Fishkeeper2004 :)

Good luck with your new enterprise! :flowers: I hope it's a big success!

I live in the US, and this year I've been using AquaBid to locate and buy many unusual species of corydoras catfish. Because the local stores only carry a few varieties of corys, out of close to 300 identified ones, the auctions are just about the only way to get them.

Fish can be successfully shipped, but it's important to pay the additional money to have them sent the fastest possible way. Once they have arrived, there are things to do that are more extensive than what you do when you bring them home from the lfs where they are already acclimated to your local water. There are many fishkeepers here who would be happy to help other members learn how to do this, but it's a subject better discussed on a thread of its own. :D

Ok thanks for your replies, there will be a feedback system just like ebay, and you will be able to access details such as address - and phone numbers meaning buyers and sellers can be happy with the security and honesty of auctions. :)

Are you in this for the business side of things, to do a respectable turnover or purely as a hobby venture.

Too be honest its mainly as a hobby, as I myself am looking forward to adding to my growing community tanks from the auctions. :D Any money made from this project would go towards paying for any expensis to keep the website up and running, and besides, we won't be charging members for their auctions for a good few months before we get going. ;)

I think that the addresses and phone numbers of people selling stuff may be open to abuse by them numbskulls (you know who I mean).
