Since I have no response :( in my previous thread, I hope I'd get some answers to this one.

This is the treatment I'm planning for:
Salt (1 tablespoon per 18.9L) + WS3 (Malachite green)(half dose of recommended dosage)

The fishies been treating with salt (above dosage) for a month but I can still see white spots on my swordtail. I've done a water change (25%) yesterday but haven't add back the salt accordingly.

So I thought I have to add WS3 to completely wipe out the spots. Would this be a good idea?

is the salt marine salt or fresh water aqutic salt?...

if its fresh water aquatic salt, the dosage for treatment should be at 3-5 tbls/3L

i would go with the full dosage of melachite green

Malachite green can be bad on tetras, although I've used Rid-Ich once after being assured it would be fine for tetras (it's a mix of mal.green and formalin..not straight mal.green). However, scaleless fish (ur clown loach) need to be treated at 1/2dose...actually better get a confirmation on that...I know they're sensitive to various med's.

Salt is said to be bad for plecos and tetras.

No signs on the other fish?

Thanks for replying! :)

I'm using fresh water aquarium salt with the recommended dosage. Should I add more together with the malachite green then?

Apart from my swordtail who has developed 2 more on the tail, one of my tetras shows few whitespots, and one of my clown loaches has 1. The others seem ok at the mean time.

Or should I stop the salt treatment b4 going for the malachite green treatment?

well, the salt treatment that u are using........isnt really a treatment. thats nothing. the dosage for it to be a treatment is at 4-5tbls per 1gallon(3L). using 1/2tbls per 18L wont do sqwat.

on tetras i dont know, but plecos are fine with it.

ive dosed my 100gallon with 5 tbls/1gal when i had some fungus, andmy pleco wasn't effected by it at all

I gave up years ago treating my tank for things such as flukes, white spot etc. by purchasing an O2zonator. It kills all protozoans dead. It does however have contra-indications, but the long term effect is brill. If you can purchase one I would do so, saves loads of money in meds. in the long term.

Hi Dragonslair, could u tell me what's O2zonator? Is it an "ingredient" in some medication? So it'll kill off any good bacteria as well? Will malachite green kill of bacteria too?

the dosage for it to be a treatment is at 4-5tbls per 1gallon(3L)
OMG! That's a lot! I might as well pour the whole box of salt into the tank then (jk) :shifty:

It seems there r so many options I can now choose. But I have to choose carefully bcoz of my Clown loaches!

That amt of salt sounds very excessive to me. I know sometimes people do salt baths, which I'm sure is more concentrated, but I don't think I've seen anything that high recommended.
Normally, the purpose of salt is to help the fish produce more of its natural slime coat, which helps ward off parasites.

I, too, have used salt with my pleco in the past and didn't notice any reaction. 'Course, he sleeps during the day, but just the same...
It may only be some plecos, but I've heard it said enough times that I haven't used it in the last year...besides, I have tetras. :/

Here's a page on Rid-Ich+.

Oh, and what Dragon's talking about is a pc. of equipment...but he'd hafta fill you in on that.

Thanks for the information, Reg! The Rid-ich sounds suitable for my fishies!

The whitespots seem come n go on my tetras, altho the swordtail n a clown loach still have it.

Everything i've seen recommends 1 tbls salt to 5 gallons. Even on my carton of rock salt it states this. You sure you didn't just get it backwards WorldNation? Seems excessive to me as well.

Also up the temp to about 82 if you haven't already.

Also don't forget that with ich, you can only kill it when it is free swimming, meaning when you can't see it on the fish! If you stop treatment when you don't "see" it anymore then it will attach itself to whatever host is available after it reproduces. Rid Ich is an AWESOME product for the treatment of ich. We had great success with it when we had ich after setting up a new tank without properly cycling it first. We treated for a total of about 15 days using the manufacturer instructions and have never seen ich again!

Good luck!

Allie

Thanks guys! But the only problem now is that I can't get the Rid-ich treatment here in UK! And when I emailed Kordan few days ago, I didn't yet have a reply... :/  :X
