Working on my sunken forest tank

Im good thank you :) wheels are slowly starting to move here in the uk too. More people back at work this week and the goverment have loosened up on time we can spend out exercising etc.

Yes ive seen your tank in the totm (youve had my vote;))very nice, i think youve done a great job. I like the idea of the sunken forest.
What kind of shrimp do you have?
That is good to hear, it is hard to stay locked up all the time. Thanks for your vote, I had hoped to put some frog bite in it too but such are plans of mice and man:rolleyes: I have feeder ghost shrimp, they already had a couple of babies, I thought I would try the cheap shrimp out first before I try the nice looking dwarf shrimp. At 39 cents each I can get 10 for the price of many small fish.

Yes thats a good idea because shrimp can be rather pricey. My Amanos wasnt cheap. Id like to try some more varieties in the future. Some colourful ones :)

The more colorful shrimp like cherry shrimp go for 4-6 dollars each, amanos are 3-4 dollars and the LFS is raising its prices on just about everything every week. They are having trouble stocking even plants like water sprite which I still have on order for a couple of weeks.

Im about to set up a new tank ive restored and now looking into to stocking it. Im looking for a group of around 15 tetra.

Glow lights seem to be a staple in the hobby along with neons etc.

I know you have some so i was wondering if they are a good specie to keep :)

I cant keep most tetra due to my water however glowlights would work for me along with a few others like lemon, black skirts, cochu blues ive been looking into.

I have had 13 glow lights for over 5 months now and have not lost one but I added them several months after the neon and embers. I lost several neon and embers but that may have been because my tetra tank was not fully establish last year. The neon and ember tetras I have now seem to be doing good too. The red eyed tetras that I added first to the tank I lost none and gave to my bother-in-law. He managed to loose them all:( But the one young fry that hid in my tank is going strong, one of the tetra fry I thought was a glow light turned out to be a red eye tetra. Not sure how that happen since it was over 2 months after all the other red eyed tetra were gone. So I now have two of them. I lost the other glow light fry (2).:(

Would you have them again in the future? Are they nice to watch

The glow light tetra I like, the red eye were interesting but went after the ghost shrimp I had in the tank at the time. I would not get them again because they grew bigger than my other tetra, I like small tetra. The glow lights are a little bigger than the neon tetras but seem to get along very well. My ember tetra hide out in the anacharis woods on the left side of my sunken forest tank and only come out at feeding time. I plan on bringing the neon and ember numbers back up to ten each. Going to try latter this summer to breed them in my basement. If that does not work than I will buy some more.

I just stopped by the LFS and picked up some more plants (ferns) and another glow light tetra and 2 neon tetra. Picked up another pair of fancy guppies and they threw in another free female. Their glowlight/neon tank had fry in it, I was surprised to see them since it is a pretty bare tank with few hiding places and they are so hard to breed. He has RO water for all his soft water fish. I also picked up 3 -5 gallon jugs of RO at the new distributor at 29 cents a gallon which is 1/2 of what I was paying.

Im inching to go to my LFS, it re-opened a couple of days ago but im going to wait till the new tanks set up.

Still not sure, I like the way they look in the tank with their bright colored tails against the dark background. If I move them it will be to the shrimp tank. Everything is opening up here so I had to run to 5 stores today on my outing. It is a sunny warm day-it is good to be free again:yahoo:

@Retired Viking You got no reason to complain. That tank is great ! I saw on the TOTM that you wrote you don't know what brand of aquarium it is. If I had to venture a guess I'd say it's an All Glass Aquarium. All Glass' forerunner was O'Dell if I'm not mistaken and they are now Aqueon. The genuine imitation wood paneling gave away it's origin. Always liked those.

Thank you, I appreciate that. You are probably right about the tank, I could not find the name. I bought the tank, stand and UGF as a set they had on sale at Petsmart. My biggest tank before it was a 20 gallon long. There were a lot of nice looking tanks in the contest. I can always enter again ;)
