I read in the pinned article that you shouldn't put green wood in a tank.

My question is: how long would you have to leave wood before it becomes safe to put in a tank?

I'm thinking of some branches 1" diameter or less from an oak tree.

Cheers.

I'm told oak is fine by others on here in the past, I found it to get pretty mouldy though, you need very dead and dry growth to reduce this - I ended up leaving mine on radiators for months and it finally stopped being a problem when it went in the tank.

green wood is a term used to describe any lumber that still contains sap.
the quickest way of drying the sap out is top kiln dry the wood,
the best way is to let nature take its course
but that could take a couple of years to 'dry'

OK, thanks nry and wolf.

One thing: I'm not sure what a "top kiln" is, but would putting the branches in the oven on a very low heat for a while have a similar effect?

Thanks again.

oops, fat fingers on the key alert
that should've read drying the sap out is to kiln dry the wood
