Bought myself a 125 gallon tank a couple days ago! Im combining my smaller tanks into the one tank in my new apartment that im moving into in a few month for my second year of college. As of now i am quitting discus simply cause i dont have the time to take care of them, but dont worry, they are going to a good home. I am going to do Blood Parrots (just got some large ones, undyed, for free from my work, a private fish shop), kribensis, blue rams maybe, my black ghost knife, butterfly pleco (not a hillstream loach, a real butterfly pleco), gibbyceps pleco, and a common pleco. Any other ideas for some cool oddball fish? i think im gonna add a african butterfly, anything else?? im not sure if im going sand or gravel, sand looks really cool when clean..but gets dirty fast. Let me know what you guys think, and when i get it all set up in sept. ill show ya some pics!

I recently did something similar too. I bought myself a 125 as a new home for my oscar.

I had some alarms go off when I read "125 gallons" and "apartment." That is a HEAVY tank. Do you know that yur apartment is on the first floor? Would a second story apartment be able to support the weight of close to a ton of aquarium?

Maybe I am just too cautious, but I wouls feel nervous if I found out that the guy in the place above mine had an aquarium that big sitting right over my bed, or TV, or kitchen table, or fish tank...

Good luck though. If everything is ok, that is one cool tank.

yes i am on first floor, and i wouldnt worry cause i calculated that it is not much more weight than me and all my buddies sitting on our couch (yes..i have some big buddies). And i have more than enough filtration for the plecos, ive been keeping them for a long time.......
so back to the topic...any ideas for some other cool fish?

I wasn't talking about filtration. I was talking about the size and keeping fish for a long time doesn't mean much to me.

2 15"+ fish that can crap for Scotland even in a 125gall tank is a lot of crap and a lot of fish.

:)

No worse than keeping 2 Oscars in a 125. And thats a generally accepted very safe stocking level for a 125.

Once again...the fish i have are not in question...im putting those plecos in, i have had many plecos for a long time...if my topic was "can i put these fish in here" then fine...but its not. stick to the topic..... and besides, sky has a great point.
Any suggestions anyone??? Any other neat fish that get along with these ones?

Not really because you are wanting to add other fish besides the plecs. Many in fact, and some large fish at that, where as oscars would be kept alone.

Have to agree with cheese specialist. Whilst there is no question you are going to put those plecs into ur 125, you are going to be very limited with regards other fish..

As long as the tank is 2ft wide you will be absolutely fine. I have seen commons and gibbys in far worse tanks. As long as you have GOOD external filtrationyou shouldnt have any problems.

Ben

i have much more filtration than i will need, i will be running enough to support a full stocked 300 gallon tank.

72x18x24 i think...cant remember, and im getting a stand from the company that makes the tanks
