Hello all! Its been a while since i've been in here but i have a question. None of my fish are pregnant, the livebearers I have are platties and guppies i have male and females of each in the tank. I never see any of the males chasing the famales, they just dont seem itnterested. I hear people say all the time that if you have a male and a female, then your female will be pregnant! But that just isnt the case for me, yet my water quality and tank conditions are perfectly fine. Why are none of my females pregnant?

Some more info might help to solve this puzzle...........
What temperature is your tank?
How many males/females do you have?
What other fish are in the tank?
What do you feed them?
 :dunno:

Any time a livebearer wont breed they are something wrong with the water somewhere. Either the temp. or the ph or something to that effect. Because ever 28 days or so I get a new batch of babies from one of my guppies. Mollies like a little salt in the water try adding some salt if you dont have any scaless fish in the tank such as plecos neons etc....

So what your saying is that I need to buy babies to ensure that they are not old fish that are not likely to breed? I have to admit, most of my fish are getting on a bit!

Age usually doesn't matter too much...unless they are sick, or something. Have you tried feeding some Live foods? What's your male and female ratio? Sometimes what I have found is that if you get a new female, the male gets interested again, and then starts breeding with the others too. And you can try turning the tank temp. up a bit to about 80F. :)
