Will This Filter Be Ok?

No direct experience with this brand, so I'll take the above posters word on them having lot's of by-pass.

The Fluvals don't have a good reputation on here, very few mambers have had them live more than a few years past the end of warrenty before parts start to fail rapidly  My 404 fluval is stuborn to work with, has lots of channeling through the media and cloggs arround once a month. All my others last arround 6-8months between cleanings :sly:

Rena and Tetratec are good. My Rena works a treat and they can be found cheaply on-line. The media supplied isn't very good, but is cheap to swap with other brands. Tetratecs are great out of the box and are also cheap on-line.

What size tank is it to run?

You will get some recomendations for Eheim soon enough, but I have had a bad run with them. Eheim are supposed to be the best on the market though.... :good:

All the best

I remember the Penn-Plax name around in aquarium stores in the 60's & 70's. I just remember a lot of inexpensive plastic things you might pick up, like algae scrapers and gravel cleaners and all sorts of misc. things. Don't remember a reputation for them as particularly good or bad. Kind of a shock they make anything as complicated as a filter.
