wierdest fish?

How about this beastie then:

Phreatobius sp. 1 (at Planet Catfish)

It's a catfish that only lives on land, in leaf litter. If you throw it into a stream, supposedly it jumps back out. It's certainly an ugly little spud.

Cheers,

Neale

I've just noticed that all of these (that I've mentioned ) and most of what you guys wrote are marine or brackish water fish.

These deep sea fish, called viperfish, do not have skin under their mouth. Also, have you ever seen an oarfish? Its 30 feet of pure wierdness, and some say they can sink boats  There is a species of crawling batfish that has an extremly eerie face, it almost looks human. That one is probably the most messed-up thing I have ever seen.  And anglerfish males do not have a stomach, liver, kidneys, ect. The males have enough organs to get them through the day, literally, and they only live if they find a female. When they do, they grab on and become an appendage, drawing blood and food from the female. In exchange for life, the male is trapped forever, his arteries attaching to hers, and the female uses his sperm whenever she pleases. All of his organs, except for the testicles and sometimes the eyes, are broken down and used as food. Talk about "The shackles of matrimony"!
