Hi, I'm just wondering why some of you did what you did with your tanks, cichlids or planted for example, tbh I am stuck in decisions between mbuna and planted in a 5 foot by 18 inches tank, and I would like to know why you like your tank, whatever it is :hyper:

i like my tanks because,
they are planted with live plants, natural gravel and rocks i do have a fake mangrove root but it looks natural,i like the way live plants move with water flow,so no fake battle ships castles or skulls for me :) .
not that i mind them in other peoples tanks :flowers: .

I feel the same as Donna, I like the way plants move and change. Have only got small tanks at the moment (the biggest being 2 foot), but am planning a 4 foot tank, which will be planted community, lots of caves and hidey-holes, a variety of small to medium Central/SouthAmerican and Asian fish; prefer their more subtle colouration to the mbuna.
All my current tanks (25 ltrs, 60 ltrs, 70 ltrs) are fairly heavily planted, one has quite a bit of bogwood, and one a sort of slate bridge thing.

I am like most on here i think. I feel that an aquarium should be a centre peice even before it has fish. I like my tank because even if you cannot see fish there is always something happening. Water rippling, plant movement etc...

Probably a matter of cost and time too. If you are going (or thinking of) fully planted high tech on such a large scale, you're talking about a lot of money and time. Where as Mbuna are a bunch or rocks, substrate and fish ;)

If it were me, I'd go for Mbuna. I don't really like an of my current tank setups anymore to be honest. I'd like to change a bit, but am stuck with fish that have grown and would be unfair to rehome at this stage. (Don't we all) but I seriously want a much larger tank. My planted tank needs major attention and tlc, so not happy with that either. My little guppy tank is so-so :/

I am hoping to be able to do a halfway house, by reading up carefully and only ordering fast-growing plants that can cope with the conditions I can offer without too much effort: hard water and moderate light.
