Why Wont My Females Get Pregnant?

Hay guys,



As you know I have had a few phantom pegnancys (spelling sorry) with my guppied but seems that they are not getting pregnant???

I have 3 Females and 5 Males i no its not the correct amount but due to loosing 2 males i need to get some more.

The water temp and tests have been fine and i have some fry but only managed to save 2...But i dont know where these came from as none of the females have been pregnant or fat enough for me to tell!!!

I'v been waiting for my guppies to have fry or at least get pregnant but nothin as yet and I'm starting to get a big concerned

I'm no expert but I have done a lot of research on these, I keep platies and guppies myself and the general rule seems to be 1 male per 2-3 females.
Apparantley the males are highly sexed and can cause the females to get really stressed by harrasssing them too much. If you have more females the males spread it about a bit!!
Your females might be too stressed to get pregnant.

if you had 7 males and 3 females, your ratio is WAY off. it's got to be 1 male per at *least* three females. otherwise the girls will be pestered to death (literally) and the stress will kill any fry produced. with 5 males in the tank, you need no less than 15 females... and that's a lot of livebearers!

my advice is trade about 3 of the boys for girls if your lfs will let you, and buy another 3 or 4 girls too.

3 females per male, well when you say *atleast* i think you mean 2

i have 2 males and 4 females and they give birth constantly, stress is a big factor

like kairi said, males are sex addicts constantly giving the female sperm

females will take in a certain amount of sperm and fertilize their eggs for a long time

they give birth every month or so after gathering enough sperm

or your females are getting pregnant but the fry are getting eatin'

my advice *buy more females are get rid of some males, guppies are not ex[ensive take a 10 dollar bill and go to your lfs*

I would reccomend some viagra. J/K, just keep the ratio of male to female at least 1:2, and u should have a couple eventually.
