I was just reading D Walsteads book and it seems that she does very few water changes, once every 6 months by the sound of it. From her point of view, the plants and DOC from rotting plants are more than enough to filter the water and clear it from heavy metals etc.
I was also looking at some blurb for those wall hanging aquariums and they also claim that they have some cunning filtration that makes a water change necessary only once every 12 months - not that I'd believe a company trying to sell me something mind you - but it seems an interesting claim none the less.
