Why Ro Water Is Good For You And Your Tank

To raise the SG, why top-off your tank? Wait till the right amount is evaporated then add SW to top the tank to the correct level. When adjusting the SG using RO with salt, the salt content has to be more that the tank water's to raise the SG. If you top-off with a low SG RO you are just increasing the amount of water in the tank and not affecting the overall SG by much at all, if any!!!

:hey: Thats what I would have done, ie wait till evaporation increases SG to the right level, and add RO salt water at the desired SG, but we may have mis understood! :S

Yeah, my bar goby hides all the time too, he's a wuss. If you move too suddenly in front of the tank, BAM he's in his little rock home. Little guy always comes around when food goes in the tank though ;)

Whoa, whoa, easy buddy! The tank was low with evaporation, so I topped up the tank with water that had a higher salt content than the tank (SG 1.030+) to raise the salinity of the tank, which was low, at SG 1.022.

I am looking at a Dardanus megistos for a temporary janitor. Considering the animal's large size, I am hesitant.

Please go here to help me out on this. Please? :look:

Thanks,
-Lynden

I decided to get him. I got a good deal on 'im; 10 bucks! :hey:

I will keep a very close eye on him; but already he has destroyed a field of hair algae and sifted the sand. He seems fairly peaceful, however while removing him from his transport he pinched me and left a continous pain. :grr:

He should be out of my tank within two weeks.

Hair algae? No way? Thats a cool find :good:

Well, notice how I said destroyed, but not ate. He seems to enjoy ripping the algae off the rocks. I then pick the sizeable chunks out, while most of it is reduced to minute, hair-thin portions.

Still, it looks better than before he was here :hey:

I removed my AC mini, AC 300, and Whisper filter in exchange for a Fluval 404. The tank looks far less cluttered, far quieter, and much more churned. So far, I love having the Fluval on there. :hey:

Also, the Carribean Red Hermit continues to impress me. He has taken refuge in a full-grown Apple Snail shell; to give an idea of his immense size. His left claw is three times the size of a full-grown Dwarf Zebra Hermit Crab. Damn did that hurt when he pinched me; I'm still feelin' it! :eek:sama:

Some updates I hesitated to add, because I wanted to wait for my camera.
But here they are, a little late, and alas, no pictures. :grr:

Added another molly, in the hopes he would mate with my female. He does, but now most of my fish are for sale, so who gives?! :hey:

The tank is sparkling. Coralline algea is taking hold, and hair algea has almost vanished. The Blenny feeds off dust algae, and this blackish algae. Every morning I find him with a shrunken belly and I begin to worry, but by the evening he's stuffed again.

The fish seem to be slowing down a little... I checked for nitrite and found it to be 0.1 ppm  the Devil is at work again! Or... could it just be from overfeeding?

I found copepods, foramiferans, and a small feather duster on the live rock. And yesterday I let a bristleworm go in the tank... will have to get a sixline wrasse to keep them in check.

New updates will be added when something important happens.
-Lynden :thanks:

Awesome lynden, glad to hear the patience is paying off :good:. I'd love to see some before and after pics of it ;)

Well, here's a before picture. It's only a drawing but pretty much an exact replica... how beautiful

But unfortunately, I will not be taking an after picture of this tank... see below post for reason...

Wait for it....
