Why is it that when someone really needs

Oh gosh, I just realized why your tank is cloudy. Its the bacteria bloom from your jungle products killing off all the good bacteria. You should definately check out your water params and start doing water changes to help your fish get through the ammonia and nitrite spikes.

Also, cleaning the filter does not cause ammonia/nitrite spikes to my knowledge unless you overclean your tank and filter media. I have been cleaning the filter media for almost a year for my angels and they have just fine. But i also have a AquaClear that uses huge sponges that holds tons of bacteria colonies. So when i clean my sponges in old filter water, i know i got alot of bacteria to back it up for the fish.

I have Two 10 gallons tanks one for the 66 fry and one with 3, 1 male and two females adults ....did the meds help the male his tail has like new blood on it or clean bright blood on it...
says one tablet for every 10 gallons and I only put half that in the babies tank and did and 50% water change on them both last night because I knew something was wrong.... I do use filter water??? but i've never had a problem with it before it only takes things out like bleach and other things that I'd have to take out anyways.... it says one tablet every 48 hours with 25%water change but I did more the tank with the adults in it isn't cloudy prebably because the filter has life in it and the new tank with babies hasn't got anything in the filter yet I know its hard on the babies to do cycling while there in there but I didn't want all of them to die so I thought it was best and if need be i'll do a 75% water change on babies and put carbon back in the filter and get it going right I don't have anything to test the water with.... but my grandma paid me last night so I will go shopping for some stuff I didn't want to get the jungle meds but my bother got them for me I wanted the stuff I used last time I had Ick with my gold fish
(came from walmarts for my 18th birthday from my mom and they had Ick got rid of it and never had a problem again till now) its the same jungle stuff just a parasite clear.... I'll make my husband go this time with me i've had it he worked in a fish store before in England but he won't help me at all (cries) :-(
I'm not doing any better so maybe I can talk him into helping me he's the one who got the meds for my gold fish I don't know why he thinks i'm going to get mad if he helps my guppies..

I'm with the fish everyday I'm a sewer so i'm always sewing and keeping an eye on the fish (told my husband we should have just had a baby..lol..) they have the light on in the day time ...for about 8 to 9 hours then I turn it off at 10 :00pm but its always on 8 to 9 hours everyday but when i have to leave I let the daylight.. light the tanks up till it goes dark..... I did read that post the first day I came on here....
my fish were all fine doing great and the males were getting fatter they were so Thin.. then as soon as I put that new fish in a week after I got it showing no signs at all having a problem.....
then I tried to take the fish back to the store and the guy there thought he new everything said it wasn't his problem because his tank didn't have any white spots in it....well no a tank full of new fish just in that day and all the fish in the tank when I got her were gone so he didn't do anything for me wouldn't even help me find the right meds just walked off while I was talking to him he helped someone else who was buying a $500.00 tank WE LOVE PETS have Great help (right I can get better help from my 2 year old niece)the fish that he said wasn't his problem he said I caused it and I gave the fish stress.... no his little worker throwing the fish into the bag with the water at the same time caused it......

I haven't last any babies and the water isn't as cloudy but I will do another wather change before I leave on both tanks just a little bit or should I ????

the only tank that didn't get to mature ('cycling') was the one the babies are in... I thought it was best to get them out of the tank when I seen something was wrong with the adults......the babies haven't showed any signs of a problem but I treated them anyways becuase I didnt know if I could be able to see anything on them .. I will do another water change on them when one of you answer me to see if I should???

Please let me know ASAP
Thank you all so much

Your husband used to work in a fish store in England?!
He doesn't want to help you with this problem?!!
He got you some medication which hasn't helped?!!!
Your local fish store not helping?!!!!
What's wrong with these people?!!!!!

Great to hear that you still have the patience and strength to carry on. Good for you! :D

I'm gonna suggest that you do not do anymore water changes because I think you've done enough of this already. Anymore, and the fish would be even more stressed than they are now. I want to suggest that you give both tanks a rest for the next day.

Keep the temperature up, and see what your fishes are like tomorrow. Leave the fishes alone till tommorrow.

my brother got me the new meds
My husband got me the right fast meds for my gold fish....
He loves fish he just won't help me with this one and I don't really know what i'm doing .. he had all kinds of fish when he lived with his mom and dad in england...
(we met over the net in a chat room 5 years ago been married almost 2 years now)
I'll leave the tanks alone today. my babies are having lots of fun simming around I'll keep an eye on them I left the tanks alone last night after doing the water change but the tank is still a little cloudy....
I did have the wee ones in a breeder net but let them all out with my 4 week old guppies after putting stockings(panty hose??)over the filter....

The last 4 nights i've only been getting two hours of sleep so i'm going to take a nap and see whats up with the fish in a bit will keep everyone updated..

Should I go ahead and buy new meds for the fish...

Whould having a new filter with no bacteria in it yet make the water cloudy ??? cause the tank with bacteria in the filter isn't as cloudy

Thanks
Erin

As suggested by gto_cowgirl, you could buy Melafix to help, but don't mix the medication too quickly. Give your fishes a good days rest, they've been through enough already.

The tank that is cloudy......is it by the window? Do you have new sand or gravel?

And most importantly, get some sleep yourself!

it has a little bit of new gravel they were babies so I didn't give them much but I cleaned it like ten time before even putting it in the water my husband gots on me about that with the gold fishI had clean the rocks then if you think they are clean... clean them another 5 times ...lol no both tanks are by the computer desk in the middle of the room

I know I need some sleep I've been afraid to go too sleep and wake up to a tank full of fish I've already had a dream were my fish are being eaten and everything else things like this bother me.... I'm to loving I guess thats my problem! :/

Thanks again and I will just sew and keep my mind off the fish today!!!..lol all but the quilt i'm making is a fish quilt for a babys room....

Thanks
Erin

New gravel. This may explain why you have cloudy water. Don't worry about the cloudiness, it should disappear. Your filter will clean this up for you.

This may be true for you, but you will be hard pressed to find a long-time successful fishkeeper on this board who cleans their filter every week. The reason for this is in new tanks, the bacteria colonies may not be large enough to recolonize every week. This will cause spikes - you may not have had this happen, but I have, as have many others. If you don't believe me, that's okay too, but a quick search about filter cleaning is all you would need to do for a further explanation of what I'm talking about.

Plysha - Cleaning once a week is fine, as long as you are only changing 25-50% of the water in the tank every week. Your filter media only needs cleaning (I'm assuming you are cleaning the filter media weekly) every 1-3 months, in most tanks. One thing that it is crucial that you buy and use (aat this point, daily) is a kit (or seperate kits) for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. We need to find out if your tank continues to cycle.

I'm having trouble determining your medication timeline, what are you using right now, and in the last week. gtocowgirl is partly right - some Jungle meds may affect your biological filter. However, some Jungle products do not.

***Edit*** Oops, plysha, I reread your earlier post and see that you only clean the filter every other week. I still think that's too often, but not as bad as every week!

Now, what do you mean, filter water? Like, you filter it through a brita or a pur? Do you add a water conditioner after you filter, or have you been running on the assumption that the filter is doing all you need...

Ok everyone seems to be jumping on me now :(
Well, first you were complaining about not getting any help - now you don't like the help you're getting. Wish I had read this before I spent another 15 or 20 minutes trying to help. If that's the way it is, you have enough help without me. Good luck to you.

I didn't mean jumping on me like that.... everyone (I thought) seem to be getting upset with me
......I'm sorry for that I didn't mean anything by it..
I do believe you about the filter....
For the water yes kinda like a brita ....
water conditioner no I don't should I be using it???

where would I get them... we love pets (they should call it the place to buy killer fish)
I will buy them and test it and put it right on here. when I first started coming on here is when I've learned that I should be doing all this stuff but I had to go out and find some work to get some money to buy this stuff I'm not made of money right now I wish I was we buy and fix up and sell house and money is really tight and I know your probably thinking well why have fish then because I didn't buy them my friend gave them to me and i only bought two of them and only 3 are living I had 8,... 4 males and 4 females
everyone makes mistakes.. if everyone in the world new everything about fish then this site wouldn't be here...and I wouldn't need everyones help....

If you feel you don't want to help me that your wasting your time on saying anything then so be it. I can't say much other then I am sorry I said it wrong...

No one else even bothered to say anything about it alot of other people have said worse things and done worse on here then I ever have... I have always been the one everyone else takes things out on and I never did a thing to anyone....

Thanks for the help and any help if you still want to give it

plysha, I'm sorry. I think I must just have a bug up my butt today - everyone and their brother are pissing me off. Please don't take it personally, it's just me having a bad day.

Okay, where to begin. You're right, this gets to ba a very expensive hobby. And most of us have lost some fish along the way, so don't feel like this makes you a bad fish mom.

A water filter removes some of the things in the water that you don't want, but not all. Also, it may be removing trace minerals that are helpful to your fish (and your plants, if you have any). It is CRUCIAL that you get some water conditioner - I know, another expense, but a small bottle should be under $2.50 and with only 2 10g tanks should last you for at least a month or two.

Aquarium salt -If your guppies are sick, and your tank only has guppies, you should add some. I believe 1 tablespoon to every 10 gallons (dissolved in a bit of tank water), but check the side of the salt box to be sure.

Testing supplies - given that money's tight, I would recommend ammonia and nitrite testing kits. Don't worry about the nitrate right now - you do regular water changes and that should keep your nitrates under control. But you need to know what is happening with these two chemicals in your tank - there is no way around it. The most economical kits will be of the type that contain little test tubes that you put tank water in, and a bottle or two of indicator solutions. These are much more cost effective, as they give you well over a hundred tests each. Don't bother with dip strips, or multi-tests - they just aren't worth the money.

We need to figure out why you fish are getting sick and try to treat the cause, as well as the symptoms.

Your not the only one I've had my share of bad days I was like that yesterday.....

Its ok don't worry about it I can use anyones help I'm new and learning myself
people only learn through mistakes and other peoples mistakes...

No worries be Happy!!!!!No hard feeling here :)
Thanks though it made me feel a little better!!!! I did have a lot of fish feels funny looking in there and only seeing 3 when I had 8 I had to do a water change on my babies I think the Jungle meds did something to their water and they were starting to go belly up change 50% of water today and they are all doing alot better and everyone's not at the top anymore.....and the water is cleaner now.....the babies didn't even move when i put the water in and took it out I did it really slowly and made sure it stayed at the same Tamp...they are now the babies I had 3 days ago all over the place... :)

Thanks again
Erin

I will do that i'm getting ready to go out now and get everything I've got my list... good thing my grandma paid me lol i'll have to start putting aside fish fund..lol.. :)
