Why Does My Lfs Do This?

You're getting your wires crossed, the LFS generally do keep them IN these little tanks that they are sold with..
Atleast when sold, SOME will go to owners with bigger tanks.

What I was saying was that at the LFS, they will at least have regular water changes from the large sump system.. Most sold on will end up in a tank that is too small/poorly kept/contains bad tankmates. Some a combination of all these factors.

In my experience, the majority of people who keep fish are not adept fish-keepers. A fish ending up in a correctly stocked, well maintained tank with suitable tank mates is a rare situation.

Do you agree?

I was at this LFS on Saturday! I was actually pretty impressed... But they did have some big fish in very small tanks e.g. featherfin catfish in populated, small tanks.

when I worked at my LFS we kept a lot of our bettas in little bowls but changed the water every 2 days and they always showed great color, now I did try to convince them to put them in the tanks but that was a no go, until we had a shipment of hamster balls come in that was smashed and she took them and hooked them onto the tanks so in about a dozen tanks there were little orbs of bettas where they got filtered clean water and it looked cool
the walmart used to have them and kept them in the cups they were shipped in with water filled with the sedation solution, that was sad

My LFS (Maidenhead Aquatics, Peterborough), keeps all their Bettas in small, say 10"x10"x8" tanks. All have gravel, good filtration, some sort of small plant and normally a small Plec in the bottom.

All fish seem fine, and they do sell like hot cakes. I'd love one, as would the GF but I'm not sure that she'd be happy with a third tank taking up even more room! Haha...

What's a decent size tank for these, 30l?
