Why do you name your fishes?

Of course I named all my fish! They all have their own unique personality and that way i know who to either praise or yell at for harrassing the others! ('howard! quite attacking molly!')

they are:

Platie family: George and Thalia (after my inlaws ) and the three Lucy's (they are identical triplets)

Molly Family: Howard, Sally, Molly and Pepper

Goldie the angel fish

Wally the pleco

and then there's 'The Posse' (my cardinal tetras)

Those are my babies!!

I don't name everyone, but i do name a lot of them...

The male bettas are Cage, Nova, Beam, Levi, Heist, Oliver, Holden, Atticus, Flare, Big, Duncan, Wally, Gill, JoJo, Alacrity, Austin, Aquemini, Avery, Anime, Apache, Monarch, Azkaban, Thor, Kauai, and two un-named.

The female bettas are known as the sisters and the girlies. I do have one who is named Lanai.

The rest of the fish teh only ones who have names are Mongo the pacu, and Big Shark the pleco.

The frogs are Jabba and Tickle.

i only name individual fish (non-schooling), fishes with special character traits, or fishes with special markings.

no, i named her heroin because she looked skinny like a heroin addict when i got her.
now i should changer her name to walrus becuase she is very fat, but the heroin name just seems to stick.

I only name some of my fish. I name all my bettas, and my favorite guppies, and my trapdoor snail, and 1 ghost shrimp. They're mostly just stuff like momma big baby and lyretail though. If I give them a real name I never remember it.

Steppy you should name your goldfish Crow cause I like crows.



I saw a goldfish in the guppy tank today at the fish store. Sorry just rambling on about nothing.

I named all my bettas, when I kept them.

My first betta I called Max (beta-max, get it?)
I also had Sam and Steve.

I had an apple snail named Bob, because he just bobbed on the surface for the first week.

Currently I have four platies. Two red comet, male and female named Fred and Wilma.

The other two are some colour variation that I didn't identify. The male is dark green, almost black, except for a peach coloured spot around his mouth/face, we called him Batfish (because he looks like he's wearing a Batman outfit). The female is a pale yellow with some calico-type spots so we called her The Joker (to go with Batman, and it looks like she's wearing a bad makeup job).

We had a pearly white platy named Casper, but she recently died
My girlfriend was upset because she was her favorite.

I have many fry, which aren't named yet, except for the largest one which we named Henry P. Wigglesworth. Hopefully "he" will be a male.

I never named my emerald cories, b/c I can't tell them apart

I think we name our fish for the same reason we name all of our pets, identification, ownership, familiarity, etc.

Flame dwarf gourami (Pumpkin)
Danios (The Speedy Gonzalez's)
Black mollies (Fred and Ginger)
Silver dollars (Lucy, Ethel, and Ricky)
Silver hatchets (Molly, Dolly, still thinking of names for the two others)
Peppered corys (Huey, Duey, and Louey)
Otos (Bugs and Daffy)

Still working on names for:
Second powder blue gourami
2 rubber-lipped plecos
3 red platys
2 serpae tetras
