Why do you breed your bettas?

i agree with the 500 thing.. is so true... unless you have a cat... lol i could still keep 500 fish he likes my fishy  :dunno: its strange but he will sit there and just watch it and fall asleep hehehe i luv it i luv it i luv it... i also say though that if the cat wont go outdoors then have the front claws taken out... makes getting the cat annoyed alot less painful for you and any little ones around... hey i may only be 16 but the cat is 18... and yes i know what its like to have my head paddled by a declawd cat   :p :D

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like alot of members breed their bettas.

I'm curious to know why you breed yours and what you do with all the fry.

Are you able to sell them? :dunno:

It seems like a very expensive venture that takes alot of commitment.

:)
I have really thick hair that annoys me to all end. It seems everytime I breed my fish my hair gets thinner and thinner :dunno: Thats why I do it ;) :p

I agree Jac, it drives me nutts when I hear of someone going to breed their dog, "just cause they want fluffy to have babies", grrrr. I met a couple teenagers in the park once with their young black lab who was very interested in...um....humping. They said they were going to breed him, so he could have the "experience" and "get it out of his system", AHHHHHHHHHH. We pointed out that it wouldn't even come close to "getting it out of his system" and probably would only make it worse. We also pointed out all of the unwanted dogs in the shelters and on the streets and that the best thing would be to have him spayed (or is it neutered? I always forget, Lol) and that might help the problem. (it doesn't always).

I also agree on the breeding license thing, that would be great!

i guess people dont know that when you neuter your dog, it makes him less rambunctious.
most people dont realize that when you let your dog/cat have babies and give them away-thats one less puppy or kitten that will be adopted from a shelter. :(
i have six cats and they are all fixed except for the youngest who isnt old enough yet. but all of my fish are ready to get it on!

And it is healthier for the dog (from my experience).

Chicago puts down over 40,000 dogs and cats a year. :-(

I think that breeder licence law is a great idea, jac.

Sorrell- you must not breed very often because you have such beautiful, thick hair.

getting back on track.

I breed them for several reasons.
#1 a father /daughter project.
#2 a fun hobby
#3 Chance to make some money back from an invenstment (i dont expect to get rich)
#4 Always wanted to breed some sort of fish and fell in love with the bettas.
#5 A great way to learn about a species.
