Mostly because people started cheating, and using pictures that weren't their's, so it was decided to stop the competitions. You can take a look at this topic, for more information, and also search...I know it's been discussed before.

I don't think the OP suggested a POTM, rather a 'fish of the month' system that I've seen on other sites. Eg. TFF's Fish of the Month, March 2009 is: Dwarf puffer fish. You could have a vote where members voted for their favourite, then the winner would be 'fish of the month' or Mods could chose it. The 'winning' fish's profile would be displayed somewhere on the forum.

And its not that the mods just no longer wanted to continue them or there weren't enough mods to handle them, its that the members showed such a lack of respect with the way they handled the competitions, that the mods didn't feel like they should spend all that time and energy on a sham. This same question has been asked for many years. The same answer is given; the Fish Of The Month competition will not be returning.
