Why Do We Have Some Mods That...

OK...

speaking of people with nothing better to do (see: me) i actually started to keep roll a while back. that means checking the mod profiles on a daily basis to see who had been here and who hadn't. that's right. manually checking. want to know what i found?

with the notable exception of the three mods already listed, all the other mods visited very frequently. the vast majority are here ever single day. the rest check in every two or three days. and this is assuming that they log in under their own names and do not visit in a "guest" capacity. there is not a shortage of moderators.

however! the mods generally do *not* log in so that we can see them. many times i would see that someone was currently logged in but their name would not appear at the bottom of the screen. while i can see the convenience of being logged in anonymously, it seems that it is creating the impression of general moderator absence. it would be my suggestion to those mods bothered by that perception that they log in such that they are visible at the bottom of the main page.

Oh yeah of course i am  funny conclusion to come to after less than a month of being here.

Just because i had a disagreement with you once you have held a complete grudge against me and you seem to think im out to get you the whole time.

I'd be more than happy to not reply to the pointless threads you make anyway ;)

Don't try to pull the "how long you've been a member" card. Just don't. It doesnt matter how long someone has been here, they can easily search through your previous threads/posts and come to their own conclusion. I myself have searched through peoples threads/posts many a time when I was bored and had nothing else to do. You'd be surprised what you can learn about someone from their posts on a message board.

I apologize for butting in, but I hate when people try to pull rank on a message forum...it's so dumb

His threads might be pointless to you, but I'm sure there are many others who appreciate them :)

EDIT: I'd also like to add that I'm sure alot of people have wondered the same thing as the OP, but haven't asked for fear of being ridiculed like he has. It's a genuine question and I saw not one post where he "demanded" they no longer be mods. If you can't make a suggestion in the board suggestion section without being jumped on, then that's a problem

BACK OFF the mods do a great job so they cant be there all the time we all have lives to live
keep up the good work mods or should i say boys and girls your doing a cracking job
and i am behind you all the way

good luck biff :good:

I'm sorry but you have posted a whopping amount of 26 posts... It just doesn't seem like you could gauge if mods are, or are not doing a good job with the amount of time you have been here based on the number of posts you have made...

but there is always mods on.It doesnt matter if some come on rarely. It saves stopping people from being mods and picking new ones every time one dont come on for a few months,Like someone above says peoples lives change.

Yes, but I have had to PM a mod once or twice before telling them to clean up different posts on different threads, because IMO not enough mods are always around. I actually think some new mods wouldn't be too bad, it would only make everything run a little smoother... Right?

For example, one time Tolak was the only one on and I went and PMed him on a thread about a 20 gallon tank stocked with a Discus, Angelfish and some Goldfish or along those lines. Lots of rude language and it was getting out of hand... This was on the Members gallery section of the forum

just because i haven't posted a lot and you might not see me
on here so much doesn't mean i am not looking or watching
the forum i am a member of 6 other forums and watch them
as well as this one so yes i do think the mods do a good job one
of the other forums i go on the mod only as three post to his name
that doesnt mean he is not watching or not doing there job
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK MODS AND YOU TO AS WELL ADMIN
this is not a good forum but a GREAT FORUM :hooray:

ok...... i think there is a lot of people here getting tetchy. The op's post was a 'suggestion', therefore he didn't mean 'I want these mods to lose their jobs', he was just pointing out that some haven't logged on in a while.

There was a valid point that they might be visiting the forum as a 'guest', and at the end of the day if there are no problems to report then they wouldn't need to sign in, but for christ's sake people calm down! I also agree with an earlier suggestion by K.J about sub mods, to cover for the existing ones when they are on holiday/busy/whatever, it's a valid poit. :)

Yes, they are, I think that's quite enough of that folks.

To address a comment earlier, I, along with a few others, often log on without being visible. I have a limited amount of time, and a considerable amount of board space to check through.

What I find is that if I appear on the online list, within minutes, people start PM'ing me wanting to chat, or with "quick questions", or to enter into discussion as to why I or another mod did "X", where "X" can be almost anything, plus all manner of other things. I can be rude and ignore them, or accept that this mod session is not going to acheive it's planned goal.

I don't think it's been pointless at all. It's just people taking shots at me because I even dared to say this, and then me having to defend myself and others coming to my aid. If people would realize that this is the board suggestion thread, and didn't get so angry when suggestion were actually made, then we wouldn't need to lock up this thread or any threads. But alas someone always has to find something offensive in everything. Thats the 21rst century for ya.

And I never for a second would say I don't do this!!!! I asdk for peoples suggestions ALL the time, but if they say something I don't want to hear, sometimes I get deffensive as well. Everyone does so I can't blame anyone here, but this is how it goes unfortunately.

can you lock this of and delete it as to me its been a pointless arguement

cheers dane
Then stop looking in on it

If we lock and delete every thread that can get a bit annoying, then new people won't see the old thread and as such will start to ask the same questions again and again.

Yeah and why hasn't the science forum been added yet? :shout:

Seriously if there were a general chat section oohfeeshy and some others wouldn't have anything to complain about anymore. The topic also wouldn't have to come up all the time. But that would be too easy wouldn't it?

SLC

booooooooooo.... no GC discussion! off topic and *really* pointless. :p

but the original topic has been run into the ground:

-- why have some of the mods been gone for a long time?
---- they have their reasons, most revolving around real life obligations.
---- the other mods are on top of things anyways and are here more often than most people realize
-- well, ok then, i guess.
---- maybe we should just agree to disagree. :)
