Why do Sterbai Corydora's cost so much?

C.sterbai have not been available for very long, compared to many of the other corys. Since the oldest tank raised breeds, such as the bronze and albino C. aeneus and the peppered corys (C. paleatus) have been around a long time, and are commonly found, they are cheap.

Within the last year, I've seen sterbai here go for up to $25 for full grown ones, but now I'm finding smaller ones for only $5 or so. While these are probably tank raised, I recently bought some full grown wild caught ones for the same price.

It's just a matter of supply and demand, I guess. They are no longer considered a "status" fish,

While they are not too difficult to breed, they seem to me to be slower growing than bronze corys, so I suspect the price might stay at least a little bit higher.

wow ... and I was groaning about paying $6 for Juliis!!! I've never seen sterbai around here but every other kind of cory seems to be around $3 or less.

I unexpectedly ended up with dwarf cory fry even though I was trying to get Endler fry. They only come out at night and wiggle around in the gravel looking for food. They are very small. Since they have gotten this far, should I really change what I am doing? I want to make sure they survive. There are 3 adult dwarf cories in there and I just drop a sinking pellet in for them. I used to throw flake in for the female Endler but I moved her out of the tank. I only had Liquifry for livebearers on hand so I drop a few drops of that in a couple times a day. There are also baby cherry shrimp in the tank that were born several weeks ago. What temp should the tank be? What should I be feeding them? Do they grow fast? Should I remove the adults? How often should I do a water change and how much? It is a 15 gallon lightly planted tank.

I've got 3 small spotted Cories in a tank and I'd like to move them to a different tank where I've got 2 other Cories. Any suggestions for how to round them up and move them safely? The last time I moved one of them he seemed to get stuck in the net and it took several mintes to get him out of the net. I don't want to stress them out any more than necessary!

My cories have never gotten stuck in a net :dunno: I move plecos by scooping them into a plastic container, you could probably herd the cories into one of those (containers) with this strategy if you have to :)

You can also feed them baby brime strimp, or crushed up flakes, keep an eye on water quality if you are using that liquifry soon messes tank water up, make sure they have plenty of hiding spaces and plants to hide away in, good luck.

Hi Polardbear :)

Once in a while a cory will get caught in a net when it's fin goes through the mesh. I've actually had to cut them out. However, it is rare that this happens.

I would suggest that you just relax and catch them like you would any other fish. It's hard enough to do without stressing yourself by worring about something that probably won't happen. If it does, just cut the net and let them swim away. You can always catch them later, move them to a shallow bowl of water and then cut the remaining net off.

Your corys will surely enjoy being all together. :D

I came home from work and found eggs on the side of my tank...now i know they arent snail eggs because i have snails in a seperate tank as feeders for my freshwater dwf puffer...Anyway we have a couple albino cory catfish, a couple upsidedown catfish and a couple yellow tail (what i was told ) MALE guppies. I was told they are livebearers anyway..so its one of the catfish i think

What should i do?? They are yellow in color though u cant really tell in the pic.

**EDIT**

Found out they are albino cory cat eggs

Albino corydoras, most likely. From what I have read (no experience, seeing as how I only have two, and they are probably the same gender :p), these cories lay adhesive eggs in the upper to middle strata, on glass or rocks.

thanks! I saw pics of cory eggs on google so i identified them. Im getting another tank to put the corys into so they can spawn properly :)

If anyone has any helpful tips on spawning cories all are welcome :)

ok. I just decked out my tank with black gravel. It is fairly smooth. I want to get about 6 cories tomorrow. Will they be ok with gravel?
