hi all, i have got a mixture of male and female guppies (hard to keep track with the amount of babies!) i have 2 females that are constantly pregnant and producing fry, the problem comes with the 2 newest females that i bought from my LFS. They just dont seem to be getting pregnant, despite having a good ratio of males to females. could it be that they are still too young or could it be something else?

any help would be appreciated :)

cheers.

How big are they and how long have they been in the tank? it should take around 1 month for them to drop fry, and their spot should darken, they don't always get fat before birth.

Alternatively, they could be sterile (I've had it happen to a whole generation of mine, that's when I lost the whole line...)

Some times younger females only have a few fry that it isn't even noticeable that they are pregnant. One time, one of my guppies only had one fry.

Yes, this was the case with my youngest, I knew she was pregnant but she was so tiny that it looked like she had ages to go and then suddenly dropped 4 fry.

One of my females gave birth to her fry 9 weeks ago and is only now starting to look pregnant again , give it time and I am sure they will give you fry.

Try leaving the lights dimmed with some candles around the tank, it'll help them to get in 'the mood'.
