Our WalMart does the same thing - sells male bettas for 3.47 and the females for that price too. I have gotten some really beautiful girlies (all 6 of mine) at WalMart. Every time I go in there I see new ones that pretty too. Pearlie white ones w/blue fins, yellow ones, orange ones, blue ones, etc. etc.

I had a talk w/the people that work at one of the PetSmarts out here, and they said they stopped carrying females a while back because people were buying them and males together left and right to either live togehter, or to try to breed. They said they wanted to be responsible and try to head that off. I thought that was pretty cool.

Different places have different prices for items..that's just how it is. Cost and demand.

Just like you can go to your local gas station and gas may be 1.98 a gallon..you drive 20 min down the street and it could be 2.09, you drive 3 hours away and it may be 2.40 a gallon.

That's just how the world works. We do not live in a cookie cutter world.

ours are the same for each i think..here they go on sale for 2 dollars and they are always really small smaller than a inch

I think it just depends on the competitiveness of other stores in the area. Generally, things such as pots and pans (or something common, you know...) will be a lot closer priced because there are several stores that are trying to give the best deal, but if there isn't anywhere else selling, say, fish, places like WalMart can charge what they feel like for them.

At least that's the case here where I live...

does anyone know why? PetCo sells theirs for 1.79, and PetSmart for 1.99. But walmarts are up in the $4 range. I thought walmart was a price competative stores, and guarentee lower prices, so why are theirs the most expensive? Plus walmart always has the smallest females I have ever seen, I have not yet had one from there grow to be 2 inches, and all my males are twice the size of the girls.
Gee, that's cheap for a betta! At least where I live in Australia, anyway. :p

As a comparison, over here a Magnum ice-cream is $2.60. And you say you can get bettas for under $2!

A betta is around $8-$9 here. Maybe we have a shortage of breeders or something... I can help fix that. :shifty:

wow that is alot, especially if they are VT's. And isnt Australia close to Thailand? Cant yall get some shipped from there?

Actually, that may make it cost more money, never mind that.

Australia lose to thailand...well...I guess....if you think Africa is close to the US....lol. Australia isnt close to anything...thats kinda its charm.

At the Walmart here, male bettas are $4.99 and females are about $3.49 I think. The LFS sells VT males for $5.99, CT males for $6.99, short-finned males (forget what they are called, they're not plakas or however you spell it...) for $9.99 and they also have doubletails, I think those are $9.99 too, but not too sure. Females are 4.99
Its kinda conffusing...everybody's prices are different!

Yeah, I've never seen a betta here for under $7. Crownie boys + girls are $12. VT's and CT's are all we have here on the coast. And there are no reputable breeders for ages. Waaaaa! :-(
