USA,
does anyone know why? PetCo sells theirs for 1.79, and PetSmart for 1.99. But walmarts are up in the $4 range. I thought walmart was a price competative stores, and guarentee lower prices, so why are theirs the most expensive? Plus walmart always has the smallest females I have ever seen, I have not yet had one from there grow to be 2 inches, and all my males are twice the size of the girls.

Not sure. Possibly the breeders they get them from don't send as many females. I'd imagine the shops would much prefer the males.

They price the males and the females the same price here. They are all bettas so they believe they should all have the same price. :S

they do have a pretty good amount of females though, compared to the other places.

I've never seen a female at the Petsmart or Petco over here...at least not the ones closer to my house. I'm not sure about the other ones. I've only seen them at Walmart...not really a variety though. They all look the same color to me.

Mine are always white and pink! Though I did snag a green CT female there once.

females are not as popular with the commen people. I mean how many people do you actually see with female bettas? I mean apart from us on here that have them, personally I like the girls better. I think with the low popularity they should be the same price.

Yea, I don't see a lot of people with them. Everyone thinks they're ugly -_- I find them quite cute though, but haven't gotten one...yet :p

wel you should, get 5 and give them a nice female betta tank!

The females are the ones that look more natural, like the plakats, which are my favorite type of bettas, I actually have 1, but still.

I dont think that that should make the price any higher.

They sell them for that much.....because they can. It's quite simple.

Walmart isn't trying to be price competative with their fish....don't get fish confused with commodities. Kids come in, see the fish, and the parents buy them. You don't often hear, "oh Bobby..lets go to Petco and see if they are cheaper."

Seriously, when was the last time you saw Walmart advertise "fish" on tv or in a flyer... just a thought ;).

but if the lower prices guarenteed is a store policy, it should go for everything.

The wal*mart I go to has more females then males and are the same price. maybe its just your wal*mart? :dunno:

They only guarentee it if YOU bring it to their attention (same with other stores who offer those type guarentee's..you have to bring in proof from another merchant to get it for a lower price). Just because they offer a low price guarentee..doesn't mean they have to shop at others stores and make sure their prices are lower.

That guarentee is only worth the moment in time it took to read it...if YOU do the leg work and bring your receipt in from another store to show how much you paid for it elsewhere.

Otherwise they keep doing what businesses do best..making money..and lot's of it. They aren't in the selling game to help you out...they are in it to make money.
:)

The Walmart here sells females Bettas for the same price as male Bettas...$2.49.

Petco (when they actually had them, as they almost never do) sold them for almost $4.

I guess it just depends on where you live.

Stores shouldnt do that, they should have one solid price for merchandise, not diffrent in diffrent locations.
