Who Wants To Be A Vet?!?! Need Help With Qualifications

Marine Science is no walk in the park either. I have a BS in marine science and let me just give you fair warning. there are virtually NO JOBS out there!!! intensely cut-throat for those FEW coveted positions. Lots of great schools for marine bio- so few jobs (no funding!!!)...so my suggestion is if you DO chose to go the marine science route, do NOT give up after your BS...go straight thru to get your phD in the field and the likelihood of getting a job teaching at the university level is just about the only way to go...there simply is no funding for all of us marine biologists out there. right now i am teaching adults night school and waiting tables ot make ends meet...looking into a lab position (not marine at all)...many of my friends who graduated with me are teachers as well or have abandoned the field all together. few of us actually found work in the field and it is NOTHING as glamorous as you may think! But good luck in whatever you choose!!!
SCIENCE IS FUN!!!!!
cheers.

Interesting reading this, glad it was brought back up. Im planning on becoming a vet. I believe you need all A's (preferably) to get into a veterinary college.

Cheers

It is interesting to see how different stuff works in different countries. In the U.S. You have to get a degree in peveterinary medacine before you will get exepted into a veterinary college.

This is an old topic but still has relevance.

My daughter is a vet, & I can vouch for it that it is blood sweat & tears!!!....
I'm not a vet but can vouch for the tears part. We had our dog at the vet one afternoon and a lady brought in a small dog that had been run over. The kids had opened the door to the house and it bolted out and into the road. The lady's two young daughters (probably 8 to 10 years old) were sobbing and could be heard all over the office. The vets apologized to us for pulling off the routine check up on our dog to attend to the emergency which we fully understood and would have wanted. Sadly there was nothing they could do for the dog as it has massive injuries and had to be put down. By the time it was all over, there wasn't a dry eye in the building including the vets, my wife and me. I still get a lump in my throat just thinking about it and that happened over 5 years ago. I'm sure for someone that loves animals being a vet or just workng in a vet's office is a very rewarding career but not without heartbreak along the way.

In my vetranary work experiance, We were called out to remove a dead foal which had become trapped during its birth. We had to literally remove it piece by piece from the mare using a hacksaw to saw through its neck and legs to remove it...
It was horrible, but im glad i did it because im 100% sure there is no way i want to do vetranary sciences.
I decided to go for a Masters of Pharmacy degree which iv been accepted into for liverpool university this coming summer.
You get paid around the same ( if not more depending on a few factors) and you dont have to watch things die or have to end its life yourself which is the thing i had most trouble with.
You still need A grades at A level for most applications and its becoming a really competative course. I was one of 1300 that applied this year for 120 places.
