Im just wondering at how many people actually have a heater in their tank connected up all the time, because in my tank I dont think the heater ever worked even when I first bought it so I have'nt had it plugged in for about a year or so now and my tank stays at a pretty constant temp of 26-28 and even during the winter the temp does'nt drop.

Heh. Our house has no central heating. If I didn't have a heater in the tanks, they'd drop to 15c in the winter.

Heaters are a must imo.

I haev no heating in my house either. In winter it can drop as low as thirteen even in teh daytime s id read to think what it's like at night.

So yeah, I use a heater. now I think of it, my fishes' home is better set up than mine

I use a few heaters. My big tanks have a few heaters just to keep them at a constant 76F degrees.

SirMinion and Cluttery,

Is your area very temperate all year long?

Here we would be frozen once October-November gets here so we have to have a heater.

I have heaters in almost all my tanks. I find them even more necessary in the summer then in the winter. In the summer, I tend to open the windows at night and my apartment warms up, but during the day I usually have the air conditioner running which drops the room temperature considerably.

Fluctuating water temperatures are one of the main causes of stress that leads to sick fish. It's really best to avoid them if at all possible. :D
