Hi,

I recently picked up two tangs, one yellow one regal for my 75g tank and it seems they both have developed whitespot. The seem to be covered in tiny one dots.

They have only been in the tank for 4 days so do I leave them for a couple more days to see if they fight it or do I treat it now?

Its not a reef tank but it will be eventually so I dont want to dose with your regular copper based medication and im not sure what other treatment to trust. Also I have no hospital tank to seperate them nor means to get hold of one. Whats the best way to treat them in this situation? They seem to be fairly happy, not scratching themselves on rock at all.

Unfortunately you're in for a bit of stick over the fact you have two Tangs in a 75g as the majority of people here feel that Tangs need a minimum 100g tank size and certainly more when there's two :/

Aside from that Tangs are notorious for catching Ich and they don't tend to shift it easily. The best thing to do is start treatment now and hope for the best. Add Garlic to the food, run UV or Ozone on the system if you can or use 'reef-safe' meds if you can't

UK Gallons

They are both about 2" big so I think there is plenty of swimming space for now. I was told in my LFS that there would be plenty of room for them both, unfortunately Ive completely lost confidence in anything he tells me now. Last time he sold me two gobies for my tank, I had to get rid of one due to bullying!

I do have a deal with a good friend who has a 180g tank to help me out so if they get too big Ill send one his way...

Putting the tangs in a quarentine tank and treating them would be the most effective method to get rid of the ich. If you are able to od that there are some excellent instructions on this site:

http://www.petsforum.com/personal/trevor-j...posalinity.html

However if that is impractical then garlic might work. I cured my bout of ich by soley feeding my fish food soaked in one of those garlic extract type products. All I did was soak the food in the extract for about 45 mins and feed this to the fish for 6 weeks.

I would move one of the Tangs as soon as possible rather than wait until they outgrow the tank. The added stress on the bioload, the other fish and particularly between the two Tangs will only lead to problems like constant stress related illnesses or death
