My new male fighter is currently living in a breeding trap until he's ready to be released into the main tank.
I've noticed that he's got a couple of random white spots on both his body and fins, but he hasn't been flicking?
Could this just be the start of ich, or could it be something else?

Also, can I do water changes on a tank while I'm medicating it?
Any advice is much appreciated!
Thanks!

ich looks like a sugar coating over his body.

Since the breeding trap is net, I can't get any decent photos of the side of him, only the top.
He doesn't have nearly as many spots as shown in any of the photos. Does ich come on suddenly or does it take time to build up spots?

It can easily start as just a few spots.

Okay.
What treatments would you suggest?
I'd really like to nip this in the bud, if possible.

I would suggest white spot treatments! Interpet, King British, API etc. Easily available online or from LFS. Follow the dosage instructions and try raising the temp a few degrees, but gradually. Remember to remove any carbon from the filter.

Seems pretty self explanatory.
I'll pick some up tomorrow. Should I turn the temp on the tank up a couple of degrees today?

One degree per day. Sudden changes in temperature are never a good idea.
