White Spot

I have just had my first out break of white spot in my tank, 3 of the fish I have seem to have 4-6 spots each, I have treated the whole tank and none of the other fish seem to have any. Would you say I have caught this early? should I expect fish losses?

Difficult to say Looby Loo. IF the fish aren't showing any symptoms other than spots, you may have caught it early enough.

What's more important is to find out why you have whitespot and fix the source of the problem. What are your water stats?

Ammonia?
Nitrite?
Nitrate?
PH?

Also, if you are using whitespot medication, make sure you have plenty surface movement in the tank. Sometimes it can deprive the fish of oxygen a bit.

Stats were done yesterday followed by a water change they read the same as they have done for months ph-7 nitrite-0, nitrate-0, ammonia 0 A friend told me it may be because i do water changes too often , I recently transfered all fish to a new tank and the 3 three fish that seem to have the spots were the ones that were most difficult to catch. I havent added any thing new in the last 3 weeks I water change every 3-4 days i recently added a new filter im running it with a matured filter

You can over clean a tank, why do you preform a water change ever 3 or 4 days.
Do you match the temp of the water change to the temp of the tank.

I do my best to, could it be the temperature fluctuation following water changes?

You can mess about with a tank to much, if you are not overstocked and have good filters you only need to maintain the tank once a week.
Best to match temp but its not harmful till you get over two degrees either way.

I tend to do water changes every 3-4 days because my BN pleco loves blood worms and they tend to make the water smell. Do you think I caught the white spot in time? no other symptoms just the sugar grain like spots.

I wouldn't say performing a water change every 3-4 days is over-cleaning the tank. I do the same and have done for years with no problems. I have heard many people say you can over-clean a tank, but i don't agree. The only time this would apply IMO is if you are using the substrate as a biological filetr. Why else would you need dirt in the tank?

IMO the more water changes the better. Well done Looby Loo, not many hobbyists are so enthusiastic.

With regard to the whitespot, it sounds like it may have been stress induced from what you say, in which case just treat it and hopefully it won't rear it's ugly head again.

Also, i doubt it will be the temperature fluctuations causing the whitespot unless your water changes are very substantial. How much water do you change at any one time?

I used to do two water changes a week on 3 tanks but it got me down.
Now only do one water change and it made no diference.
I think you stress the fish removing things twice a week.

Fine, if you want to do two water changes twice a week that your choice.
But I think its not needed if your tanks not overstocked and has a good filter, but thats just my opion.

I think that should be fine Looby Loo. As Wilder says, it's probably not necessary, but the fresher the water, the better. That's what i say! C'mon the fishes!

Or im really sorry to here it got you down. Before I got my new tank I had 3 tanks running, It was time consuming ,but i loved it. I moved them to their new tank almost 2 weeks ago if the white spot was caused by stress due to the move wouldnt it have shown sooner?

Its not that I was lazy had a bad bout of depression and my heart wasnt in it any longer.
Only have one tank now and do a water change and vac once a week.
If you moved them two weeks ago yes I would of thought the whitespot would of appeared sooner.
