Small problem ?

I am setting up a new 110Lt tank it has been running in a planted fish-less cycle for 2 weeks, and the heater sucker pads and the temp control knob have a white almost translucent deposit on them, when touched it floats off into the water.
What is it?
Is it harmful to the bio process in the filters?

ammonia .8
nitrite .4
temp 80f
these are today's test, dosed with ammonia last night, 4 drops.

Not sure but we had that too when we set up our tank, then it disappeared suddenly. Which may or may not have had something to do with us introducing a Bristlenose =0)

Me too. Although everything in the tank has a slight "slime" covering to the touch, there is definately a lot more of it on the rubber bits in the tank (Top of the heater, heater control, all the suction cups for heater and filter, pipe to air brick, etc) during cycling.

Would be interestihng if someone knows what this is....

...... and me.

I am fishless cycling in the dark - anything to do with that I wonder ? Some sort of algae ?

Hopefully someone will know what it is !

it's normal and it usually passes after a week or two.

Mines still there, its got worse since i changed from gravel to sand. There was a little bit there before, but i wiped it all off when i changed the substrate and just did a general clean. On day 13 of the cycle, and its grown back faster!!

it's nothing to worry about, its harmless fungus or bacteria growth. usually a good sign rather than bad, just don't disturb it.a and when you feel the need to clean it off do it outside of the tank.
and also considering some of you are currently cycling your tank, it could be ammonia build up, it usually means the ammonia is high (duhh :p ) and the nitrite has spiked or is about to ;)

I have the same thing on my heater and filter suckers (not all of them, just a couple). I didn't worry too much about it but nice to know it's normal!
