White crap growing in Amos' tank

I having been keeping up with the story the whole time..I really hope he pulls through!

Thanks for the well wishes everybody - he needs it!

Soooo...
I've noticed after each bath that when he gets into the tank, there are tiny bubbles coming off of him - like alka seltzer.
Is that the bacteria getting off of him, or what is that???
He's still laying on the bottom and looking pretty bad.
But, he's moving around a little bit every now and then.

I'm going to go run errands after work then come back tonight and set up a few things in his tank at least for him to rest on. Right now there's nothing in his tank so he just either lays on the bottom or against the glass. Poor little dear.

He also has to make mad dashes up to the top to get air but at least he can still get up there. I have a plant I'm going to put in so he can rest on top of it and be near the top, too.

More to come...

I had that problem before and here is how I got rid of it...

for starters bacteria grows in warm water (solution)lower the temp by a couple degrees each day

scrubbing the tank will just swoosh around the bacteria giving it another place to latch onto Try taking out 50% of the water, replace it with tap water treated with aqua plus and a bit of cycle.

If you dont have a filtration system Get one

See when in a small tank more fungus and bacteria are more confined and grow much faster so you have to try and be on top of of on a daily basis...If you have a Pets Unlimited around you try going there as they are fish gods and well tell you exactly what to do and will not rip you off....

This happened in my oscar tank and he did the same things your little guy did ....now he jumps out of the tank and even attacked my cat the other day... try out what I said above It will work.....plus cycle will help treat his scales and fins impossible to overdose

He's to the point where he's really fighting for his life now.

The tank has nothing in it but amos, water, an air stone, melafix and dechlor.
I cleaned out his tank yesterday (twice) and once today using scalding hot water and salt to kill the bacteria. The MelaFix and salt baths are about my only hope now - I have a feeling I won't have to worry about it much longer, unfortunately.

Thanks.

Bettas don't need a filtration system - that's cuz of their unique ability to breathe the air. I just do 100% water changes about every 4 - 5 days.

Don't say that keep you pecker up, fish can really surprise you at times, but also you do no when they are on there last legs, fingers crossed X

Wilder - Do you know what "keep your pecker up" means in the US? (I'll give you a hint - it's naughty) I just had the only laugh of the day from that one. Thanks, that was awesome.

I am a bit hopeful here, if not for just a moment - he's up and off the bottom of the tank a little bit and has steadied himself so at LEAST he's not laying over on his side. But, he's done that before throughout the day, then the next time I look in on him he's laying again.

I think I'll also wait until I come back to try another salt dip. He seems like they stress him out something fierce. I'm still finding shards of his tail in his tank - pretty soon he won't have one left. not that he has much of one to begin with after everything.

And I don't care if he looks like Frankenstien when this whole thing is over and he makes it thru - he'll still be gorgeous to me

Amos' tank is cooling off faster than I would like it to be.
It's now at 76 degrees - it was at 82 about 4 hours ago.
Is that too fast?
my only other option is to plug the heater back in and let it heat back up to 82...

Lemme know.
Thx.

I think usually every hour for a degree or two, leave it be maybe.

LOL BettaMomma I was thinkin' the same thing...must mean something WAY different over there. Would that mean "chin?" Because here, it means part of the male anatomy.....LOL But you need a laugh, so I'm glad you got one!

Is Amos still colorless/white? I have never seen that....when a fish loses it's color...if he does 'perk up', will his color come back? Will be back to check on you and he in a bit!

Yes it means keep your chin up.

It was cute, I must say. I really needed the laugh, for sure.

I will get photos posted of his coloration when I come back to the office in a few hours. It's kind of horrifying to see them in that condition - it's kind of like looking at someone when they're perfectly healthy, and then seeing them withering away from cancer. with no hair. and pale as a ghost.

The poor little dumplin - he's kind of scooting around the bottom.
and yeah, when they get to feeling better their color comes back to them.

It kind of seems a bit like his color is coming back a tad - he's not ghostly white as he was this morning but everything with him seems like it's changing constantly.

I'll post more after while.
thanks for being here for me. I really appreciate it everyone.

Thanks.
I finally got my digi camera to work.
This should really put it into perspective.
Here was my happy, healthy Amos:

He's having a salt bath now.
Going to put him back in a bit.

Keep hoping for the best.

Man...
i just put him back in and when he landed, he flopped over on his side and he's gasping for air REALLY bad.

I'm starting to think it's just his time...
I don't think I wanna continue his misery any longer.

This is so hard :-(
