What would people recommend as the best out of the following filters:

Teratec EX1200

OR

Fluval 405

And why?

I can't decide which one to go for!

i have the same dilema i think im going for the fluval because i have more experiance with fluvel only know i cant decide on the 405 or the fx5

Haha - I was thinking the same about the 405 and FX5, but decided on the 405, then thought about the EX1200. I dont think the FX5 offers enough more for the extra cash.

I have a fluval U4 in at the moment which I will keep in and have either the 405 or EX1200 running as well. I am leaning toward the 405 but the reviews I have read of the EX1200 all seem so good and I cant find many on the 405

the fx5 can filter tanks up to 400us gallons the 405 filters tanks up to 100us gallons so i gess thats why its more but i dont know if its worth £60 more or not

it really depends on how much extra you want to pay.

you can get an eheim classic (2217) for $100 - $150
or pay a bit more and go with an eheim pro like the 2026 or 2073

or if you really want the bells and whistles, you can go all out and buy an eheim wet/dry filter (2227/2229)

its just so darn sexxxy.

for the price, you cant beat an eheim classic. id suggest looking into the 2217. its a very basic filter, but a workhorse. and the build quality is amazing.

eheim 2217 is seriously under filtering your tank. Your tank is say 340-350 litres? You would need 2 eheim 2217. I have a 240 litre tank an im using 2 x tetratec ex1200 and they are great.

You need atleast 4 times your tank size filtration per hour. So you'd be look at something with atleast 1400lph turnover. What are you keeping in the tank?

6 black widdow tetra and 4 apisto the 2217 is way big enough

imo you should be looking at atleast 3 x filtration on your tank regardless what the stocking is; which the 2217 just doesnt do...
