I've had my tank up and running for a while now and am in the process of stocking it. So far I have
- 4 dwarf gourami's
- 2 african dwarf cichlids
- 11 black neons
- 1 golden nugget plec (L081)

I am now thinking of getting a bristtlenose and some cory's but not sure which ones to get or how many would be suitable. All the ones I have seen in my local shop are tiny but I'm guessing they will grow considerably bigger in the future.

The tank is 180L with medium planting, bogwood and slate feature.

Any ideas or thoughts would be much appreciated.

I say Panda Corys! They're common aka easy to find, very playful, fun to watch and hardy :) They're my favorite type of cory.

Corys are tiny little guys and most won't get over 2 inches long. My full-grown pandas are 1.5". It's best to get atleast 5 of them, because they like to hang out as a group.

Hi arcg1978 :)

I would not recommend keeping corys in the same tank with any cichlids.

I have Orange flash cockatoos and Agassazi red tails in a 100 usg community tank with 6 or so peppered cories. But Coreys should not be with any African Cichlid!

Peppers are slightly larger--3+". They are very active and spawn regularly, although none of the fry survive in that tank. The peppers rule at night and dusk. They would be more visable in a quieter tank, though.

I assume it is a simular species of dwarf cichlid that you are speaking of. I personally would not chose pandas for that tank. They can be more easily disturbed by their tank mates. BN would also be a good choice. They also prefer a group.

If you choose one of the more robust cories, try to give them a shoal of at least 6. That will help them feel more secure. Most dwarf Cichlids should be fine with a shoal of medium to large cories. The substrate should be smooth sand or planting substrate. Be sure to double check in the NWCichlid forum for suggestions. Smaller Botia/loaches are also a reasonable choice. I have 3 queens and 2 straita in the tropical community tank. They are active day and night. They must rest in shifts, beause the loach dance is going 24/7.

I have reread your post. You specified African Cichlids. Coreys may not be kept with Africans at any time! Sorry for the bold type, but I wanted to make sure you saw it, arcq.

Seconded. Peppereds are very attractive and grow fairly readily. Though our schwartzi and bandit are almost double the size of all our other corys.

Hi all thanks for the info. I just realised that I made a mistake with the desciption of the cichlids. It should have been

2 x African butterfly cichlids (Anomalochromis thomasi).

I don't know if this makes any difference to your previous comments or not?

I also forgot to ask, my local shop had something they described as a jumbo BN which was around 6 inches long. I can't seem to find any information about it. Could it just be a full grown BN?

If they are New World dwarfs, then possibly/probably.

Never, ever any Africans regardless of the size.

That is large for a BN. Check out this site
