Sadly, a lot of the reviews are quite poor.
On the Salifert?Sadly, a lot of the reviews are quite poor.
Yes, the Salifert is repeatedly reported as underestimating the ammonia levels, which is rather worrying. I usually assume 5% of 1 star reviews is average but the Salifert has many more than that on the website I checked (I don't know which that was now). If I start collecting more tanks I'll consider a Hanna tester, but it does seem rather a lot of money at this stage.... But thank you for letting me know about it.On the Salifert?

I didn’t realize the Hanna tester was $80 over there. Here in the US, it’s around $50.
The original unit only comes with enough liquid for 6-10 tests, but you can buy replacement reagent for $10.
Hanna testers are rather expensive considering their “competition”, but they are extremely accurate.
Most of those bad reviews are because people can’t follow instructions, and perform the test incorrectly.Yes, the Salifert is repeatedly reported as underestimating the ammonia levels, which is rather worrying. I've gone for Salifert ammonia and nitrates. I'd love to try Hanna testers but have just received a £900 bill for car repairs so I'm skint for now! Thanks again for your advice. Most of those bad reviews are because people can’t follow instructions, and perform the test incorrectly.
The Hanna testers are more expensive, but are super easy to use, and have a lots less room for human error.
It’s up to you! Let me know what you end up getting.
Hello Avel1896. Thanks for the advice. I took a look at JBL and would consider it in future, but for now it is ammonia testing that I really need and the JBL kit doesn't cover it, sadly. Still, it's a fascinating way of testing.Hey @Sunnyspots the very best way to check ammonia or anything else are JBL tests drops that are more accurate, no contest.
You can also get ammonia test strips at the chemist.
You can purchase only ammonia test drop : https://www.jbl.de/?mod=products&func=detail&id=8667&country=gb&lang=enHello Avel1896. Thanks for the advice. I found some online here in UK. My lfs doesn't stock it, only the marine kit for £117! I'm glad I'm doing freshwater fishkeeping. Thanks Avel1896. I'll get some if Salifert doesn't do the trick since I have already ordered it.You can purchase only ammonia test drop : https://www.jbl.de/?mod=products&func=detail&id=8667&country=gb&lang=en
Your bank account is glad also. Reefing is MUCH more expensive.I'm glad I'm doing freshwater fishkeeping.
The Salifert is still an excellent option. Much, much more accurate than the API tests.I've gone for Salifert ammonia and nitrates. I'd love to try Hanna testers but have just received a £900 bill for car repairs so I'm skint for now! Thanks again for your advice.
