Where To Donate Fish

I have 2 Jack Dempseys, 5-6", and three red bellied pacu, 4-5", in my 55 gallon tank. I am ready for some new fish and don't know what to do with these ones. My lfs said that they don't accept cichlids or pacu. I don't want for them to die so any suggestions on what to do with them? Thanks

try another petshop or ring a public aquarium or the zoo. Also try contacting your local fish club or cichlid society

Unfortunately, rehoming larger fish is not easy. Most people don't have a tank large enough for them and those that do probably already have them stock. As mentioned, contacting the other fish stores in the area would be a good place to start.

You could also try aquarium groups in your area. I belong to the Green Bay Aquarium Society, and we're constantly exchanging fish. I have a fellow member who is going to take my Convicts, since he has use for the babies.

You can do a google search for them. Or check a hobby magazine. Usualy at the back of them, they have listings for groups. I'll also do some checking for ya.

And why didn't you research your fish before buying them? Pacus will NOT fit in a 55G!
