Hello Folks .. :D

Looking into setting up a larger tank .. 6 feet long by two feet wide ...

My municipal water here is very hard gH = 300 ppm .. tap pH = 7.8 .. -_-

I was considering placing collection of fish in the future tank all from a single region of the world that have a water chemistry close to my own water ... but where in the world would I find fairly hard water and high pH and interesting fish ??? Any ideas ?

Thanks !! :D :D

Good Day ... B)

Yes, and they are also very interesting and will make your new tank look really cool...also as you are getting a big tank, that would be ok. :D

I haven't yet met an aquarium fish that can't handle your water - you can keep pretty much anything you like, believe it or not. Freshwater fish are very flexible.

more specifically malawi and tanganyika cichlids live in high pH and hardness.
Lake Malawi does NOT have hard water.

parts of it do, remember how big this lake is freddy!!

thats like saying the sea has no salt!!!

Hey were are you from? Do you live in vegas? Sweet then, I'm only an hour away from you then!

At it's hardest lake Malawi measures at about 5 dh. this is not very hard. at it's softest, about 0. Cheers

I may be mistaken as I don't keep them anymore , but don't many of the live bearers like guppies , platies and swordtails prefer water on the hard side , though many fish are highly adaptable anyhow .

And many central american cichlids as well .

in the lakes and streams of the world with hard water, and the ocean, test your water for phosphates and if your levels are low (2ppm lets say) you would be an excilent candidate for a reef tank, check out the salt water section, it costs alot more but they are lovely tanks to have
