well, with some of the other posts in that section, i would say it would be acceptable.. she is, and i am also, considering it an announcement.. board announcements would seem like the correct place for it. unless you have a better idea, i really dont feel deleting it fully was needed.. nobody was annoyed or being offended by the fact that she had an announcement to make about her post number.

It seems a mod disagrees, as do the rules about what can and can't be posted on the forum.

That is announcements from those that run the site, not those that use it. Announcements such as a new mod or a new sub forum, not an announcement that someone has posted lots.

So let's all do it. We can all post how many posts we have all over the board. Then, maybe one day, someone will find a fish related post amongst all the "look how many posts I have".

Indeed, posting in such a manner without adding anything to the forum you are posting in (that is, not posting fish related points) has quite some support for being termed post whoring.

And this is just my opinion; that I would prefer the forum to have more useful posts until such time (if it should ever come) that we have a general chat area again.

i guess i cant see how announcing birthdays is about the forum atall whatsoever... so the number of posts is still more relavent then that, yet there is a lot of birthday remarks. at the same time, not crazy amounts like ur referring to happening wiht the post count, which i dont believe would happen. The forum is a network of people, a lot of who are on a lot and like to talk. feeling able to say such things without this problem is what keeps people happy and on forums. if there is always constant debate over stupid things such as this, people become unhappy and leave, or frustrated and just stop enjoying it so much. i just personalyl think moving the post to this section would have avoided this issue, yet kept the post out of the tropical discussion where it does not belong. whatever im not going to argue, my point was made, yours was made, people can agree or disagree it doesnt matter as his celebration was ruined and cant be changed.

I agree with andy, firstly post count really doesn't mean anything and secondly it's against the rules of the forum as it's classed as general chat and therefore you shouldn't be surprised if a mod removes it. Yes some similar posts do slip through the net, it's obviously going to depend who'se on the board at the time and so on.

as for birthdays, at least they are some sort of real celebration/1
