Where Am I Going Wrong.

In anyones opinion would the BN not be the ideal candidate to be returned?
Due to
1)The amount of waste it'll produce?
2)New tank.... little algae?
3)i thought plecos were fairly sensitive to ammonia etc?
4)size?
Probably wrong....
As you seem to be on good terms with your LFS ask them to hold the fish for you until filtration and cycling is sorted.
Worth a try!

the bristle nose does produce ALOT of waste,
but the stock is to much imo,

I would return the Harlequin Rasbora all of them

and neon tetras are fragile to my knowledge and stress of overstocking and the large waste thats is produced by so many fish in a small place would cause stress,
making the vulnerable,

You could consider having a Sump, (pointless on that tank best buying a larger tank)
better filter,
but best solution is saying bye bye to some of your fish

The rule is 1 inch per gallon,
Not rule, guide :)

I don't think I have a FW tank at less than 2" per gallon.

If it were a rule, one could put a 10" oscar in a 10 gallon tank! I really don't think so!

You wouldn't try having 15 1inch fish in 15 gallons, Yes they would fit but the waste produced is a vast amount for the amount of water in the tank,

Actually, 15 1" fish (that is 1" as adults, not fish that are currently 1" but will be much bigger as they grow) would be quite fine in a 15 gallon tank. You would only need normal filtration and a regular maintenance schedule. It definitely wouldn't be too much for a 75gph filter to handle.

The reason members quote the 1 per gallon guide isn't that it's a set in stone rule that if exceeded means certain failure. It's simply a guide for beginners to follow to make their initial entry into fish keeping as simple and trouble free as possible. If a beginner properly cycles a tank and stocks it with smallish fish by the 1" guide, the should not have any major problems at all. It is also used when people post their stocking levels and say they are fighting ich or high nitrates or what ever problem to judge how heavily their tank is stocked to see if that is part of the cause of their problems. Once again, simply using it as a guidepost.
