when will they come?

when you look at the guppy from the end side, and you see that the body is no longer round but more square. that's when you know it's almost time. not sure what day but soon. just put her in a breeders net. if you don't then you might loose some fry over night or when ever. good luck.

oh here is also some fact.... if you see you gupply is being kind of hostile when other fish get too close to her or declaring an area... that's the sign. ( to my guppies that is.

does that apply for mollies too? i can't really predict them.

Even if you cant tell by looking at them if they have babies, mark it down on the calender and then 3 1/2 weeks later put her in seperate tank and wait. When you figure out the cycle of each female you can pretty much nail it to the day!

Although you wana have them in there new tank for a couple of days at least!

good luck with it

:D :) Ive always had guppies, and i to notice a difference in their behaviour before they drop. But i also find predicting molly birth times allot more difficult. They are allot more colourfull and no so see through as the female guppies thats why i find it more difficult.

The gravid spot at the base of the tail and at the end of the body will darken, when she is getting closer.
It becomes darker fromthe pupils of the frys eyes in the mother.

Hope that helps ya a little :fish: :fish: :fish:

i had a few 1 week old frys and i placed a pregnant molly in the breeders tank, a few hours later they where gone. never again would i do that. i think 3 weeks is fine.

I still can't tell when guppies are about to have their fry. One of my females was square for more than a week. I didn't even bother putting her in a breeding trap because I couldn't tell when she was going to pop! I just found the babies that I could and scooped them out.

I heard its bad to catch fry in a net. Why?

Just like you guppymonkey I can't really tell when they are ready to drop.I don't know about nets and little fry but I do it all the time, even a few minutes after being born i scoop them and place them in another tank.I found out that putting my females in an isolated breeding trap would make them nervous and I have decided against it.
This just happened to me a few days back........I go feed my fish and I realized that in the corner a few of the males were chasing this female, that's when I realized she was dropping at that very moment.I used a fish net trying to keep the three males away from her but they wouldn't buy it.Finally, I managed to isolate the female by getting her inside the net. Some of the flakes went through the netting and as she was having her fry she was having a bite. How crazy is that!?
Also, has anybody ever see a female having three, four babies at the time? It's quite amazing. :D

if i put my guppy in a breeder net for 2 weeks will it harm the female guppy or the upcoming fry?

i dun think it's good idea for you to confine her in a samll area for 2 weeks. cuz she may drop sooner and you may see some fry aren't even ready yet. she needs some excerise before she labour... to get her into shape. just like humans... pregant women goes to do some light aerobic excerise. try not too confine her more than a week.... :)

good luck with your guppy
