When to euthanise?

I am thinking of having a break from them, or of trying to find a wilder version of one. I like their personalities but would be quite happy with dull colouring if it means he’ll be healthy. Not sure where to start looking, though. I’ve found https://simstropicalfish.co.uk/ who seem to do a range. I don’t want to use my LFS any more.

Wow, that site has a TON of beautiful bettas. Lucky you, you have a great selection!

I’m so sorry for your loss.

They all look too heavily bred, though - any idea what I should be looking for if I want to go more “wild”? Is it ethical?

Nice - thank you. I’ll have a look. Also considering bottom feeders (I’ve de-railed my own other thread with this) so I might start a new thread for advice!

Shrimp don't get white spot (Ichthyophthirius). The parasite can't burrow through their shell.

Ah, thank you, Colin! Any idea what those white dots on my shrimps’ legs were? They fell off the second they were exposed to the salt dip.
(the shrimp are thriving and seem happy).

No idea what the white dots were but they weren't white spot (Ich) parasites. If fish have white spot parasites, the parasites don't drop off the fish when they are exposed to salt. If the white dots fell off the shrimp when you exposed them to salt, they were some sort of external parasite (maybe copepods, worms/ flukes, epistylis or leeches).

I'm so sorry for your Betta...
I was having the same problem with Bettas, and someone recommended me to have a look at Wild Bettas. Well soon I got a pair and then I got another pair ( 😂 ) and they're all doing great. They're so much healthier than domestic Bettas, and IMO even more beautiful. You can have a look here if you want https://bwaquatics.com/ ,their fish are really healthy and arrive in great condition :)

Personally, I'd suggest looking on some of the groups on Band as a lot of these fish are home bred and not farmed. There's also the option of Franks Bettas which are line bred from wild caught parents.
