Well, I decided to change the look (plants/gravel/rocks etc.) of my 37 gallon so started a bit of work tonight, and had to stick my arm in above elbow to get at things like the bubble wall and thats when THEY attacked. Has everyone heard of the shows like "when Animals Attack"? I have 6 tiger barbs and they could be the inspiration for these shows! They went after my arm - especially around elbow and I was surprised at how much they could pinch me! They made the gravel vac a battle too - kept trying to go after the end so they could get sucked up too! Couldn't believe how non timid they were! Even my black skirt tetras and zebra danios gave me little kisses - although at least they didn't try to taste me! Only the neons seemed to have brains - they kept their distance at least! Any similar experiences?

haha well you must have been an intruder to the tiger barbs lol
my experience happens everytime i have to put my hand, net, prett much anthin in the tank, you see normaly my betta is a coward... but whenever i have my arm in that tank it attckas me realy makes you jump aswell lol

Tiger Barbs did that to me. Thought my freckles where interesting :X Its a shock more than pain lol.

Ahh you big girls blouses! :D

None of those fish actually feel even vaguely bad... try putting your hand into a tankful of puffers to rearrange something...

I used to have a cleaner wrasse that would clean my arm. Although his intentions were good, it hurt because he recognized my hairs as parasites.

If my Oscar is real hungry, or holding one of her "grudges", and I put my arm in the tank, she will bite it, and it hurts - she has drawn blood before.

Man - had no idea fish could be so vicious! Only thing I've been scared of before would be something like an electric catfish? I think thats what I heard of where if startled they give you a bad zap! Maybe they need warning signs on the tanks at the lfs for barbs & oscars etc. too!

Electric catfish won't kill you, it will hurt but won't kill you. Electric eel's however.

Worst thing to bite my has been breeding cichlids, doesn't hurt just shocks you the first time it happens.

I have atleast 30 tiger barbs in one tank and my Amazon Swords are always moved by my pleco. re-rooting it is shockin because although the barbs split up into 2 groups, they swam up on my arm and just nip after nip. after the shock has gone it does feel quite relaxing and massagey. Infact, sometimes the amazon swords dont have to come out for my arm to go into the tank...i do it outta pleasure :look:

When I put my arm in the tank to clean, I have 9 Neon Rosy Barb's hanging off my arm!!! LOL! If I hold my finger above the water, they will jump out to nip at me!

Forgive my newbieness but, are tiger barbs aggresive fish, I was thinking of get 3 for my tank ( details in sig) should I have any worries????

Tiger barbs ARE normally aggressive to other fish unless kept in a school of at least 6...if you only get 3 they will totally harrass your other fish! Not recommended...if kept in a school they basically just pick on each other...

Ok well then they are out becuase 6 at 3" per is 18 " and if I use the 1 gallon per 1" that would only leave 2" for 10 fish
rofl that is a "project" fish tank for real
