when teckie nerds take up fishkeeping

now i would have to keep cold water fish in it....

and then use it as the resovoiur for a water cooling kit :)
er, actually 1 of 2 things would happen if that was done:

(1) the reservoir would have cool water pumped out and HOT water pumped in. the temperature elevation during runtime would be completely unstable and also a bit on the high side-->fishy death (especially for a cold-water specimen)

(2) the reservoir would have cool water pumped out and no water returned. the water level would slowly lower through the course of a gaming session until the tank emptied-->fishy death

if you'll look at the bottom of the page at the FAQ section, the guy even says that he couldn't figure out a fish-safe way of integrating this into a water cooling system.
ok - so i was messing about... there is no way i would actually put a fish through it

you see there is the difference between geek and a nerd :p

well, i'm gonna have to aggree with all of the above!! if anything have the tank bit underneath the actual pc, not on top! also i imagine that the inconsistant vibrations on the pc will stress the fish and the fans inside the computer could well blow dust into the tank or the tank smell out into the room. good idea and all that though!!

That's the dumbest thing I've seen since the betta shoes.
Not only will the fish get cooked - that tank is WAY too damn small for those fish.

Sheesh. 700 bucks?
Not exactly the smartest thing anyone's ever done.

I agree with what's been said - only posted to ask, what betta shoes? Never heard of those. Sounds desturbing.

BettaMomma, that's 719 pounds, not dollars. I just calculated it - that's about $1342 US!! Holy $h#@!! This dude obviously has much more disposable income than anyone I know! Not to mention the time it took. And I agree, 10 (or any amount actually) Neons is over the top. Maybe a few gambusia. I don't think he did his fish research very well. No Neon I've ever had could handle temp swings that wide and unpredictable. Gambusia and zebra danios are the only fish I know of that could tolerate that, but that 2-gallon tank is way too small for zebras. Ya gotta agree though, it's a conversation piece...

Being a techie nerd that took up fishkeeping, I am very offended by your topic and comments!

2 posts and your offended already :p

lol - get used to it - I'm a geek and i'm proud :)

it's actually about £380 and $719

I think it's a great project and besides heat problems it probable could be made to work.

Half that the cost goes out on PC equipment which like said can be used on another project and there's about $100 worth of tools in there.

tbh I wouldn't spend £380 on a PC with a tank inside it as i have bigger fish to fry!!

I like the fact he had gone to Walmart for bits but still used a proper LFS when it came to the fish.

Actually he spent dollars not pounds. And I (being a nerd) find this cool. I don't really see what people are so worried about. He says several times that the tank is well separted from the computer parts and that the temperature within the tank never exceeds the "livable range of the neons." I am not saying that the temperature of the tank should fluctuate very much, but I don't think that it will with his setup.

He is overstocked, but what newbie isn't. At least he didn't put some goldfish or oscar in there. As for the price, I get plenty of eye rolls from my family when they hear about me buying "more fish stuff," so to each their own I guess.

I think it's a pretty good PC mod, especially for his first one.

EDIT: Paul got in there before me while I was distracted/ working.

I stand corrected. I thought it was in pounds, not dollars. :/ That's not nearly as bad as I thought. Now instead of having way more money than me, I realize he has way more patience than I do!

Well i still wouldn't spend that amount of money on a thing that when it comes down to it, is a 2gal tank with neons.

Hmm...second hand 20g for $5, or a space consuming 2g for over $100
I can't wait till the summer, so many garage sales and cheap tanks, unlike this fancy 2g rip-off

oh well never mind hey. it was meant in the nicest possible way and anyway i am actually the designated IT person at work and have 2 tanks in my flat. i was including everyone of us in that comment as were all spending our time on a web forum after all and i hazard a guess that we all keep fish.

i should have called it something more interesting like "pc fish tank" !!!

edit: however after 331 views i think the original heading did the trick. :nerd:
