I am cycling another tank without ammonia (as unable to get at present), i am using filter media, some substrate and some water from another tank. I also have plants in. I know what to look for in the readings when using ammonia, but unsure what to look for now. Have taken base line readings from tap water. Also how often should readings be taken? How should the readings look during cycling without ammonia?

The readings during cycling without ammonia would be zero for everything, unless your tap water has ammonia, nitrite or nitrate in it.

By putting in the filter media and substrate, your tank has been seeded with the bacteria. Now you still need to add ammonia as in a normal cycle in order to feed it.

Hi, I recently cycled my baby tank with filter media. Here is a link to my readings which may help answer your questions My baby tank cycle

Remember all reading are different and this was a very small tank so it cycled quite quickly. :D

Good Luck with the cycling
