I'm curious as to what kind of tetras people like and why.

Currently, I have 5 von rios in my tank, down from an original school of 8. First off, I'm thinking of replenishing that school a little, but I'm also thinkng of getting a different type of tetra. From what I've seen, the rummy nose tetra is an impressive fish.

You can see my current stocking levels in my tank. I won't be adding anything into my tank until I know what happens with my "rehabbing" female cockatoos.

What do you think of my current stocking levels, with and without the additional female cockatoos?

Will the von rio and rummy nose school together?

What is the minimum recommeded number of rummy nose tetras?

Can I add add a school of rummy nose tetras (or another suggested species) to my tank?

Can I add two or three von rios and a school of rummy noses? If so how many rummy noses should I add?

Thanks for any and all advice and I look forward to hearing about your favorite tetra even if I don't add anything else to my tank.

Never kept them but i like the congo tetra.

Last type I got are buenos aires tetra and I think they are a lovely little fish. They inhabit the middle to top of the tank in open water mostly and are extreemly active and look great when shoaling... imho good value active fish

www :)

my current fav tetra is the glowlight
I like black neons too. :D

My personal favourites are the Congo Tetra species, Phenacogrammus interruptus and the Yellow Congo Alestopetersius caudalis I think. :)

The Penguin Tetra and Congo Tetra would be my favorites. I think both make for attractive schools in a tank.

With or without the cockatoos you could probably add 6 rummuynose tetras without over-stocking majorly. The tank is also planted and rummies aren't big so that would be ok IMO. Just keep up with maintainance and it should be fine. They probably won't school with your von rios though. As for minnimal group size - all schooling tetras should generaly be kept in groups of 6 minnimum. There are exceptions but with most this is the case and rummies are no exception. :)

My favourite tetra? Hands down the black phantom. I love these little guys. They actualy have some character which you don't get in most tetras and they, especialy the males, are beautiful with their blacks and greys and long flowing fins. The females have red on them too which not only makes them easy fish to sex but add some extra color too. The males also display to one another - something more impressive with these fish than with other tetras because of their ability to flash different colors (white to black almost instantly) and because of their wonderful finnage. :)

I agree. These are great little Fish....

Thanks everyone for the tips. I'll investigate the black phantom. It seems like a very interesting fish.

definitely the lemon tetra. i've also had cardinals, rummy-noses, glow-lights & neons and the lemon is by far my favorite. they're interesting little (well, not little compared to the tetras i just listed) fish. great personality & are beautiful as well.

I just got some beautiful Congo Tetras! Very nice fish and add tons of life to my tank. I have 4 and thinking of buying one or two more tomorrow (had to wait for paycheck lol). Will 5-6 Congo Tetras make a good school of fish?

To add to the topic. I really like the Emperor and Diamond Tetra's as well. Great fish.
