Whats Wrong With My Fish?

i came home and i found my red platy in the corner of the tank, near a plant, just sitting there. she is getting chsed and nipped all the time. her tail fin is torn on the edges and it has this red stuff on it. Is that blood. one of my fish came from the other sideof the tank and came and nipped her tail fin, right where the red stuff is. her gills are kindof white and she is breathing fast. What is wrong with her? i am very worried. i don''t want her to die .

I don't know what is wrong with it, but you should seperate it at least into a breeder box if not a seperate tank.

How big is your tank? What other fish do you have? How long have you had the tank? Have you added fish or moved "decorations" recenlty?

im no expert but it sounds like she may have septicemia, she should have been taken out of the tank as soon as you realised she was being bullied.she sounds realy stressed out too, have you removed her from the tank now? put her into a net and put some plants in if you dont have a spare tank ( or even a clean ice cream tub and float it in the tank-filled with tank water)
you dont say what other fish are in the tank, and the experts will also need to see the results of your water tests ( as poor quality can make fish aggressive)

Yep as above, immediately remove the platy, even into a tupperware tub if you have nothing else for now.

Can you tell us the size of tank, other occupants, how long has the tank been set up, water test results, ammonia, nitrite, ph and nitrate please.

In the meantime, remove the fish and if at all possible, get a photo of the damage.

Obviously if shes being chased take her out to a seperate tank and treat her for her fins. Then figure out why she was being bullied.

I will try to remove her. Should i buy a treatment for fins. you can kind of see the red stuff on her tail fin. does it have to be in another tub or can it be in a breeder box, no divider

put her in a box if you must, but they can be very stressful,if she starts to show signs of this ( erratic movements) then put her in something else Ie tub.

i would be inclined to suggest melafix BUT plz wait to get another opinion on this, as there may well be something better, i cant tell if its been bitten or its running thru the tain fin, so plz wait for further advise from a fishkeeper better qualified, get her out tho ASAP

A breeding box that goes inside the main tank is fine. If you dont have a test kit and the tank is only 3 weeks old, I would suggest that you are experiencing ammonia and nitrite spikes. If you can take a sample of your water to a LFS and ask them to test it for you and write down the results for ammonia and nitrite and nitrate if possible.

I would suggest an immediate 50% water change and 50% water changes daily until you can get your water tested,

I cant tell from the picture very well, but it looks like melafix would be the best option for now, until we can get a better diagnosis of the problem.

First of putting her in a box will be stressful! The best thing is to put the bully in the box. Inside the box there is less circulation and bacteria grows more easily. The injured platy will heal much better in the main tank. Also I assume you have salt in your tank right? Livebearers love salt. A pinch of salt will make your platies much more hardy. Melafix is a good med for your injured platy. It contains tea tree oil.

put her in the breeder box, do a 50% water change and increase the airation in the tank, as said with your tank only been setup for 3 weeks you probably have ammonia and nitrite present both of which are deadly to fish, how long have you had the fish?

If you put her in the breeder box, be sure to out the lights to minimize the stress.

Also, you have two angels in a 10 gallon? They require a tall rather than long tank of at least a minimum of 20 for one and alot higher up for two so you need to rethink your stocking as well as 3 weeks? How long have the fish been in the tank? Normally its 4-6 weeks of cycling then adding your fish unless you have mature filter media to help establish it quickly. I wish you the best for your female platy.

I just got her in the breeder. When i scooped her she was sitting on the bottom of the castle and we put food into her breeder and she is not eating. One of my stupid angelfish jumped into the box while feeding her!!!! my angel is feisty!!!!

I may go with melafix.
I changed the water 2 days ago and they seem fine. For a better diagnosis, the red stuff is right where the fin is torn.

Is Melafix the best brand for the fin? or is there something better? none answered me yet about the white gills. it is just on the gills.
